Intern- Consumer Engagement – UP Power Sector

The Council on Energy, Environment and Water (CEEW) is seeking young, bright, and passionate candidates with interest in community engagement. As an Intern, you are expected to support the organisation in holding interactions with individual electricity consumers, communities, community leaders, discom officials in targeted areas of Lucknow district. You would also be organising and conducting workshops and awareness sessions for electricity consumers in those locations. CEEW researchers will provide the necessary training required to meet the objectives.

An ideal candidate for the position is a street-smart, self - driven, and outgoing professional with some experience in conducting surveys and capacity-building activities.

If you believe that consumer concerns in the electricity sector are ample and need to be heard, understood and tackled with utmost patience and right information, then you could be an ideal candidate for this position.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Participate in the training sessions for Consumer Coordinators
  • Work with the team of Consumer Coordinators, and under supervision of researchers at CEEW for executing the group discussions, interviews and awareness programs
  • Engage with consumers on day-to-day basis to understand, and help them resolve their electricity-related queries and grievances
  • Engage with discom employees and officials of Consumer Grievance Redressal Forum (CGRF) to seek their guidance and assistance in resolving consumers’ issues
  • Conduct workshops and awareness sessions at the local-level for consumers
  • Come up with innovative ideas to better understand, measure, monitor, communicate and (ultimately) improve the power supply situation in Uttar Pradesh
  • Assist in writing research reports/papers
  • Assist with gathering content for blogs, policy briefs as and when required

Qualifications and Skills

Minimum qualification:

  • Master’s degree (currently enrolled or completed) with specialisation in sociology, political science, gender studies, liberal arts, development studies, public policy, social work, or related fields
  • Keen interest in issues related to governance and economic policy
  • Experience in primary data collection
  • Understanding of qualitative research methods

Must have skills/experiences:

  • Excellent communicator with the ability to convince people of the value of attending awareness programs and capacity building workshops
  • Insightful and concise writing skills in English and decent communication skills in Hindi
  • Proficient in using MS Excel and MS Word

Additional skills

  • Candidates with basic understanding of power sector and energy systems will be preferred
  • Experience in community engagement
  • Studied Hindi upto class 10th

  • Willingness to travel to rural parts of Lucknow district for meetings
  • Flexibility to work with a diverse group of people
  • Can work independently with limited supervision
  • Assess priorities and meet deadlines with attention to detail and quality
  • Ability to build and manage relationships with individuals and organizations, internal and external stakeholders
