Position offered Intern – Special Initiative

Reporting to Programme Lead

Location New Delhi

Duration 4-6 months


CEEW seeks to hire an intern who will assist in a special initiative. CEEW offers an intellectually challenging and conducive work environment, with a focus on research rigour, innovative thinking, and strategic outreach.

The special initiative taskforce seeks to broaden and deepen CEEW’s engagement in the Southeast Asia region. The initial focus of the planned engagements will be the region’s energy transition.

The taskforce tracks policy, regulatory, and market developments and analyse drivers, risks, and opportunities for advancing the energy transition. This includes analysing the political economy of the region as well as the energy sector. The taskforce interacts extensively with key stakeholders associated with the energy transition spanning think tanks, government, industry, and financiers, with a view towards identifying avenues for collaboration in the SE Asia region. The research intern is being hired to assist the taskforce in advancing its objectives.

Job Duties and Accountabilities

The successful candidate is expected to assist researchers in the CEEW team doing the following:


  • Track policy, regulatory, and market developments in the South-East (SE) Asia region/ key markets
  • Map key stakeholders associated with the energy sector and the political economy of energy in the SE Asia region/specific markets
  • Analyse key drivers, opportunities, challenges associated with the energy transition in the SE Asia region/specific markets
  • Co-author issue briefs and develop ideas for blogs and other outreach submissions based on research
  • Contribute to the team’s research objectives to the extent that your skillset adds value to the output, on request or otherwise

Programme Assistance

  • Respond to research requests from senior researchers, discuss research needs, and prepare responses that synthesise and analyse information
  • Assist with programme implementation, including help with preparing presentations and policy recommendations
  • Assist with building a database and relationships with a wider community of experts, scholars, institutions and potential donors in the energy, environment and water domains
  • Assist with planning and executing events such as meetings, consultation workshops, round table discussions, etc
  • Assist with setting up and operationalising an office set-up in the region
  • Contribute to reports and other research products as part of the research team
  • Participate constructively in weekly team meetings

Selection Criteria

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree with specialisation in engineering, business, economics, public policy, international relations, law or related field
  • Understanding of or prior experience in energy, power sector, or sustainability space associated with South-East Asia is an added advantage

Main Skills

  • Must have strong research skills – capability to carry out literature review is a key requisite
  • Possesses problem-solving skills - able to deal with ambiguity and uncertainties
  • Strong analytical skills including quantitative research skills
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Must be an adept user of MS-office suit (Word, Excel, Power Point)
