Purpose

CEEW seeks to hire an ambitious and diligent individual who would be keen to work in the area of innovation to impact. As part of the Energy Access team at The Council, the individual would be involved in cross-cutting themes of energy access and rural livelihoods, with the aim to support entrepreneurs in commercialising their clean energy solutions for livelihood applications.

The role would entail extensive engagement with multiple stakeholders of the Indian entrepreneurial ecosystem, viz. entrepreneurs, investors, financiers, incubators and accelerators, and other market enablers. Candidate must possess very strong analytical abilities (including logical reasoning, critical thinking, information gathering, analysing and visualising), strong communications skills, significant bias towards action, and a zeal to learn and create impact. Good understanding of start-up and social enterprise ecosystem, rural consumers and markets, rural livelihoods and MSME sector would be strongly desirable. The role would involve frequent travel to smaller cities and rural areas to collect data and engage with enterprises and rural population. Familiarity with designing and implementing pilot projects and their monitoring and evaluation would be highly useful.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage research and implementation projects with minimal supervision and guidance
  • Design and undertake market research studies for livelihood appliances looking at aspects such as consumer needs, end-user financing, customer value proposition, willingness to pay, etc.
  • Undertake market characterising and sizing exercises
  • Manage engagements and partnerships with a diverse set of stakeholders through regular and proactive communications
  • Identify and build relationships with public and private stakeholders relevant to CEEW’s work to foster collaborations and sustain engagement
  • Identify the challenges of the sector, translate them into potential research questions or implementation projects
  • Prepare concept notes, project proposals, pitch decks etc. and engage with donors and funders
  • Hold discussions on energy access, productive use and related topics
  • Present CEEW’s work to external audiences as and when required
  • Travel to rural areas for data gathering, end-user engagement, and monitoring of on-ground implementation/pilot projects

Selection Criteria

Education

  • Master’s degree with specialisation in rural development, business management, agriculture management, energy economics, public policy or related field.

Demonstrated business experience

  • Should have at least four years of relevant experience with a consulting firm/ incubator /start-up. The experience could span in the areas of market research, research advisory, business or strategic consulting, data analytics, policy analysis, etc.
  • The experience should pertain to the fields of rural development, livelihoods, MSME sector, energy access, social entrepreneurship, innovation for impact, etc.
  • Should have project management experience to be able to lead and manage the projects with limited guidance while ensuring adherence to timelines
  • Should have the experience in managing partnerships (through proactive communication) and stakeholder engagements (through persistent follow-up and coordination) to ensure timely execution of deliverables

  • Ability to conduct techno-economic analysis, cost & benefit analysis, sound knowledge of basic economic principles
