CEEW seeks to hire a Programme Lead to expand its work on in the area of air pollution. The Programme Lead would conduct quantitative and qualitative research, including data analysis, statistics, survey design, stakeholder interviews and engagement, and would support the advancement of the research and policy engagement for air quality.

Job Duties and Accountabilities


  • To conceptualise new research ideas that are aligned with programme objectives
  • To develop a series of publications including policy briefs, reports as well as publish in high quality peer reviewed national and international journals
  • To extrapolate and verify data provided by research analysts/programme officers, evaluate, organise and edit the data into comprehensive standard report forms
  • To develop surveys and questionnaires and to collect, collate and analyse responses using different data analysis softwares and tools
  • To keep a tab on the policy developments in India and across key countries of the world on air pollution
  • To travel to project sites, when required, to conduct interviews or collect data for different research projects

Research Management

  • Take ownership of specific projects and assist in overall plan of activities under the risks and adaptation programme, by being an integral part of the team
  • Proactively manage project deliverables, resources within time and budget constraints
  • Support effective communication of research outputs, through close coordination with outreach team, engagement with wider network of stakeholders, and concerned policymakers
  • Support senior team members for important meetings and sessions, prepare notes, and conduct follow-ups, as required
  • Oversee and support junior team members to help them deliver at their best


  • To present research to key constituencies, advisory bodies, conferences & research institutes
  • To develop research networks locally, nationally and internationally in support of research programmes
  • To develop strong relationships with donors and strategic partners

Selection Criteria


  • Master’s or PhD degree with specialisation in engineering, economics, public policy or related field
  • Should have a strong research background, including an understanding of experimental and analytical research
  • Familiarity and a high degree of comfort with quantitative skills and analyses

Business experience

  • At least four years of relevant work experience in the field of research, policy engagement and project management, preferably in the area of energy policy, fossil fuels, renewable energy, climate policy for Research Associate position. Candidates with significant experience may be considered for a Senior Programme Lead position
  • Strong track record of project assistance and timely delivery of outputs
  • Experience in dealing with public and private institutions

Main skills

  • Ability to work on and configure, air quality models – simple Lagrangian models to more comprehensive integrated tools such as WRF-CAMx, will be an added bonus for any candidate
  • Knowledge on air pollution monitoring technologies and management
  • Strong analytic skills including quantitative research skills
  • Good written and oral communication skills; Good report writing skills
  • Ability to use MS Office application suit including MS Excel
  • Relevant publications in peer reviewed journals/book chapters
  • Desirable: Knowledge of remote-sensing for air quality
