Job location : New Delhi


CEEW seeks to hire an ambitious and diligent individual who would be keen to work in the area of innovation to impact. As part of the Energy Access team at The Council, the individual would be involved in cross-cutting themes of  energy access and rural livelihoods, with the aim to support entrepreneurs in commercialising their clean energy solutions for livelihood applications.

The role would entail engagement with multiple stakeholders of the Indian entrepreneurial ecosystem, viz. entrepreneurs, investors, financiers, incubators and accelerators, and other market enablers. Candidate must possess very strong analytical abilities (including logical reasoning, critical thinking, information gathering, analysing and visualising), strong communications skills, significant bias towards action, and a zeal to learn and create impact. Familiarity with start-up and social enterprise ecosystem, rural consumers and markets, rural livelihoods and MSME sector would be strongly desirable. The role would involve frequent travel to smaller cities and rural areas to collect data and engage with enterprises and rural population. Familiarity with designing and implementing pilot projects and their monitoring and evaluation would be highly useful.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Contribute towards the development and implementation of market research studies for livelihood appliances looking at aspects such as consumer needs, end-user financing, customer value proposition, etc.
  • As part of a team, undertake impact assessment exercises, including development of data framework, survey instruments, data gathering, analysis, visualisation and writing
  • Effectively communicate and share the research insights and recommendations with key stakeholders and wider sector.
  • Identify and map potential challenges of the sector
  • Analyse large amount of primary and secondary data and carve out insights
  • Draft reports, memos, document meetings, collate literature.
  • Contribute towards developing concept notes, project proposals, pitch decks etc.
  • Assist in outreach and communications related work related to the programme.
  • Present CEEW’s work to external audiences as and when required
  • Travel to rural areas for end-user engagement, and data gathering on-ground implementation/ pilot projects.

Selection Criteria


  • Master’s degree with specialisation in rural development, business management, agriculture management, energy economics, public policy or related field.
  • Preferably a bachelor degree in quantitative background such as engineering, maths, or economics.

Demonstrated business experience

  • Should have at least 1-2 years of relevant experience with a consulting firm/ incubator /start-up/ etc. The experience could span in the areas of market research, research advisory, business or strategic consulting, data analytics, policy analysis, etc. The experience can be in the form of previous work experience, internships and research work.
  • The experience should pertain to the fields of rural development, livelihoods, MSME sector, energy access, social entrepreneurship, innovation for impact, etc.

Key skills

  • Should possess strong analytical abilities including problem solving, logical reasoning, critical thinking, and systems thinking skills.
  • Skills to undertake market research and consumer needs assessment.
  • Good networking and business development skills.
  • Good project management skills.
  • Ability to conduct techno-economic analysis, cost & benefit analysis, sound knowledge of basic economic principles.
  • Good written and oral communication skills; Good report writing skills.
  • Ability to use MS Office application suite including MS Excel.


  • Ability to take initiatives, but also should have the persistence to follow through to take them to logical conclusion.
  • Ability to think out of the box to generate new ideas, but should be able to channelise the energy on short- and medium-term priorities.
  • Ability to create, understand, and effectively communicate big picture, while having the diligence to go into the details to realise the big picture.
  • Bias towards proactive communication to ensure that need for follow-ups is minimal
  • Motivated by the impact of work rather than the type of work.
  • Ability to effectively work in a team.
