Purpose

CEEW seeks to hire a Research Analyst primarily for its Climate Risks programme. The Research Analyst will have to do primary and secondary data collection, geo-spatial, and meta-analysis. The work might require frequent field visits and coordination with various stakeholders. Candidates with Environment Technology /GIS/Environmental Sciences/Climate Sciences background are encouraged to apply for this position

Job Duties and Accountabilities

Research

  • To perform primary and secondary data collection and analysis.
  • To perform spatially and meta-analysis of climatological variables using mapping and ML-based tools.
  • Knowledge and research experience in mapping tools like ARC GIS/Q-GIS is a must.
  • Support in developing climatological models and big data analytical tools.
  • Develop maps based on data on different extreme climate events.
  • To support and contribute to the sectoral risk assessments.
  • To participate in relevant conferences, workshops, training programmes for a comprehensive understanding of the climate risks.
  • To assist the team to work on multi-disciplinary projects, proposal writing and project development.
  • To work on climatological models or tools such as GRADS/ Python/MARS etc.
  • To analyse data using tools like MS Excel, STATA, R, etc.
  • To conduct field surveys: questionnaire designing, coordinating with field staffs.

Project/programme assistance

  • Assist with project implementation, including help with preparing presentations and advocacy material.
  • Assist with building a database of a wider community of experts, scholars, institutions and potential donors in the environment, water and climate risks domains.
  • Assist with conceptualising and developing a public outreach and youth involvement strategy for CEEW.
  • Support efforts to use new media platforms for wide dissemination of CEEW’s work and, in turn, closer engagement with the wider community.
  • Assist with preparing regular updates and emails for distribution.
  • Participate in weekly team meetings and assist with preparing minutes.
  • Accompany the CEO and other team members for meetings with other stakeholders; prepare minutes of the meetings and assist with relevant follow up.

Education and experience

  • Master’s degree with a specialisation in Climate Science/ Environmental Science/ GIS/ Environment Technology and allied.
  • Understanding of climate risks, disaster risk reduction, and dynamic risk assessments.
  • Experience in dealing and analysing with spatial and meta-data.
  • Minimum one-two year research experience of conducting spatial and meta-analysis, climatological analysis.
  • A fair understanding of satellite imaging and modeling tools that are used for risk assessments.

Key skills

  • Must have strong research skills.
  • Willingness to conduct frequent field visits/meetings with stakeholder.
  • Willingness to work on multi-disciplinary projects.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Experience working with software programmes such as Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and spatial analysis tool like ArcGIS, QGIS etc. is a must
  • Experience in using climate models like GRADS/ Python, MARS, MODFLOW, etc. is a plus.
  • Experience in data collection preferred.
  • Experience in dealing with stakeholders (farmers, grassroot workers, government, climatologists etc.) preferred.
