Position offered: Research Intern – Renewable Energy

Reporting to:Research Analyst

Location: New Delhi, India

Duration: 4-6 months

Purpose

CEEW seeks to hire an intern who will assist in conducting research for CEEW’s Renewable Energy team. CEEW offers an intellectually challenging and conducive work environment, with a focus on research rigour, innovative thinking, and strategic outreach.

The Renewable Energy (RE) team is one of the eight focus areas at the CEEW. Our work supports India’s - and the world’s - clean energy transition. It does so through timely, research-based interventions based on extensive policy, regulatory, and market analyses.

The RE team works closely with the power distribution companies (discoms) and industry to bring out the multifaceted benefits of distributed renewable energy (DRE) sources to different stakeholders. While working with state discoms, the team engages in developing frameworks to assess the economic impact of DRE sources on discom revenues and innovative business models to implement the same. It also undertakes period surveys of the industry and case studies to assess the DRE employment potential and understand the skills required to accelerate the sectoral growth.

The research intern is being hired to assist the fellow researchers in undertaking robust quantitative and qualitative analysis pertaining to these programs.

Job Duties and Accountabilities

  • Undertake rigorous literature review of different methodologies to assess the economic viability of distributed renewable energy sources for different stakeholders like utility and consumers.
  • Assist in developing surveys for the DRE industry stakeholders.
  • Review large amounts of data and analyse information using a variety of mathematical tools and interdisciplinary methodologies.
  • Report the key findings effectively to the team in written and oral formats.
  • Contribute to reports, journal papers, and other research products as part of the research team.
  • Respond to research requests from senior researchers, discuss research needs, and prepare responses that synthesise and analyse information.
  • Assist with programme implementation, including help with preparing presentations and policy recommendations.

Shortlisting Criteria

Education

  • Enrolled in or completed Bachelor’s/ Master’s degree with interest in power sector, renewable energy, and public policy
  • Should have strong research background, with quantitative skills
  • 0-1 years of relevant work experience

Main skills

  • Strong analytical abilities, effective oral and written communication skills are a necessary prerequisite
  • Experience working with software programmes such as MS Office, tableau and spatial analysis tools like QGIS, Google Earth Engine etc. are preferred
  • Ability to analyse information and present in a clear and accurate manner both verbal and written
  • Ability to manage time effectively to handle multiple requests at the same time
  • Ability and willingness to work in a dynamic and fluid environment
  • Ability to work in multicultural teams

Compensation

Competitive compensation – commensurate to the experience and matching the best of standards adopted by industry or other similar organisations for similar roles.
