Position offered Communications Associate/Consultant

Reporting to Communications Specialist/Programme Associate

Location New Delhi

Duration 12 months (extendable basis mutual agreement)

Purpose

CEEW seeks to hire a candidate with exceptional project management and writing and editing skills to enable sustained outreach and communication for CEEW’s Powering Livelihoods programme. Powering Livelihoods, a CEEW-Villgro initiative, aims to boost India’s rural economy by scaling up the penetration of clean energy-powered appliances for livelihoods. The initiative is supporting six enterprises to undertake large-scale commercial deployment of their solutions through an integrated gendered lens and use the evidence generated to catalyse the sector.

The candidate will have the opportunity to work with top policy researchers to bring sustainability from the margins to the mainstream and get exposure to the inner workings of one of India’s leading think tanks.

An ideal candidate should have prior experience in writing and creating interesting content for various platforms. The candidate should have excellent story-telling skills and basic knowledge of the Indian media landscape. Candidates with public relations experience or communications experience in the clean energy sector will be preferred. The candidate should be detail-oriented and work well under pressure.

In addition to the duties and responsibilities below, the individual should be prepared, as and when necessary, to take on additional responsibilities.

Job Duties and Accountabilities

  • Ensure a steady flow of content for outreach and communications on the Powering Livelihoods (PL) programme.
  • Collaborate with various stakeholders such as programme partners and cohort and affiliate enterprises for factual details, photographs and consent.
  • Guide and support them in identifying (social) media-worthy information and curating content using the updates.
  • Collaborate with other members of our outreach team and external vendors on how best to tell stories and present PL research and updates using design, photo, graphics, audio and video.
  • Work closely with the Villgro team to ensure synergies in outreach and communications on PL.
  • Curate content for weekly social media updates on PL activities.
  • Attend internal and external weekly, monthly and quarterly meetings and identify (social) media-worthy updates on the initiative.
  • Attend webinars/events/conferences where Powering Livelihoods is discussed and identify (social) media-worthy updates.
  • Identify relevant influencers, hashtags for each social media update.
  • Track posts by relevant organisations and prominent speakers discussing distributed renewable energy for livelihoods and enable engagement with their content.
  • Work closely with CEEW and Villgro’s outreach teams to post and reshare the updates.
  • Develop high quality blogs, articles that can be published on PL, CEEW website humanising the PL and CEEW story.
  • Identify national and international events where PL can be featured - speaking slots, panellists, side events, (poster) presentations, etc.
  • Identify journalists who are writing stories on rural livelihoods, technology for development, clean energy, and support the Communications Specialist (Media) in pitching interesting stories to relevant media.
  • Work closely with the Villgro team to ensure that relevant content is being provided regularly to media partners and agencies we engage with.
  • Identify innovative written formats to publicise PL research and updates such as debates and explainers to make our analysis consumable for a range of audiences.
  • Work closely with the Communications Specialist (Media) to inform and enhance PL’s media strategy.
  • Work closely with CEEW’s digital communications team to support in scriptwriting for short and snackable videos for PL.
  • Support the Communications Specialist on events, media, and strategic partnerships.
  • Support the outreach team on content-related and coordination activities as and when required.
  • Support the Strategic Communications Lead and Communications Specialist on special projects.
  • Ensure strict adherence to CEEW branding guidelines.

Programme Assistance

  • Respond to research requests from senior researchers, discuss research needs, and prepare responses that synthesise and analyse information
  • Assist with programme implementation, including help with preparing presentations and policy recommendations
  • Assist with building a database and relationships with a wider community of experts, scholars, institutions and potential donors in the energy, environment and water domains
  • Assist with planning and executing events such as meetings, consultation workshops, round table discussions, etc
  • Assist with setting up and operationalising an office set-up in the region
  • Contribute to reports and other research products as part of the research team
  • Participate constructively in weekly team meetings

Selection Criteria

Qualification

  • Preferably Master’s/Bachelor’s degree in Business Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, English or any related fields.

Work Experience and Other Skills

  • 1-3 years of experience. Candidates with journalistic experience, PR experience or communications experience in the clean energy sector are highly preferred.
  • Proven track record of delivering high quality written content for different mediums.
  • Exceptional business/science writing skills and demonstrated ability to calibrate communications to resonate with internal and external target audiences.
  • Excellent grasp of English language.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Excellent eye for detail.
  • Creative thinker with demonstrated success in implementing out-of-the-box content ideas.
  • Demonstrated abilities to manage multiple priorities, projects and internal/external resources in a fast-paced environment, while meeting deadlines and quality standards.
  • Strong drive and initiative, a self-starter.

Compensation
