Purpose

To support the Communications Associate (Data) on a range of activities including, but not limited to, creating charts, data visualisations, infographics, and other data-driven collaterals such as videos and social media posts, curating information design products, design research, and data cleaning, and assisting in other ongoing communications projects. The right candidate will help us level up our data storytelling by enhancing existing research outputs with illustrations, iconography, and graphic elements.

CEEW invites applications from graduated design students with an interest in information and communication design.

The candidate should be solution-oriented, detail-oriented, and committed to adhering to timelines. In addition to the duties and responsibilities below, the individual should be prepared to take on additional responsibilities as they arise within the Outreach team.

Job duties

  • Create and fact-check data visualisations and other data-driven collaterals such as, social media posts, infographics for publications, website, and events.
  • Work with researchers and Outreach to identify the best visual formats for data storytelling.
  • Develop interactive explainers on low-code/no-code tools to simplify research outputs.
  • Support the Communications Associate in curating in-person data-driven experiences.
  • Support the Communications Associate in developing a visual style guide for CEEW’s charts across channels.
  • Support the Outreach team in other design-related work as and when needed.

Selection Criteria

Qualification and work experience

  • Master’s/Bachelor’s degree in communications, design, or any related field.
  • 0-2 years of work experience.

Key skills

  • Knowledge of design tools such as Figma, Adobe Illustrator, and Adobe Photoshop with a high level of proficiency in Figma.
  • Knowledge of data visualisation tools such as Flourish and RawGraphs. Alternatively, the candidate should be proficient in working with vector graphics.
  • A keen eye for design — layout, typography, and colour theory.
  • Comfortable working with numbers and proficient in Excel/spreadsheets.
  • Excellent communication, spoken, and written English language skills.
  • Attention to detail and a can-do attitude with the ability to adhere to (and manage multiple) timelines.
  • Basic knowledge of QGIS is a plus.
