Designation offered: Consultant – Crop Residue Management in Punjab

Reporting to: Programme Associate/Research Analyst

Location: Punjab, India

Duration: 15 March 2021 to 15 Dec 2021, extendable upon review

Purpose

CEEW is seeking a young, bright, and passionate candidate with some experience in community engagement and primary research, for the position of ‘Consultant – Field Research in Punjab’. The chosen candidate will support the organisation in understanding various crop residue management alternatives, engagement with relevant stakeholders such as farmers, farmers’ cooperative societies, KVKs, state agricultural officers, Pollution Control Board officers, policy experts, and academicians across Punjab. CEEW researchers will provide the necessary training required to meet the objectives. An ideal candidate for the position is a street-smart, self - driven, and outgoing professional with some experience in conducting surveys, interviews, focus group discussion and building coalitions.  

Responsibilities and Duties

  • To carry out a comprehensive literature review and maintain a repository of relevant resources and information.
  • To identify and build a matrix of relevant stakeholders Farmers’ Cooperative Societies,  Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVK), State Agricultural Officers, Pollution Control Board officers, policy experts, academicians
  • To develop questionnaires and conduct surveys and interviews with the stakeholders
  • To understand various crop residue management alternatives in line with the prevailing agricultural issues in India (with a focus on Punjab)
  • To track measures taken by the government to address crop residue burning
  • To carry out the relevant literature review and summarize findings as reports
  • To deliver daily and weekly tasks set by CEEW researchers
  • To participate in relevant conferences, workshops, training programmes for a comprehensive understanding of crop residue management.

Requirement and qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree with a specialisation in Agricultural Science, Economics Environmental Science, Environmental Policy or related programmes.
  • An understanding of challenges associated with Indian agriculture particularly in the states of Punjab and Haryana is desirable
  • Proficiency in Hindi language is a must. Punjabi language is preferred.
  • Willingness to travel extensively in Punjab and Haryana to conduct frequent field visits/meetings with stakeholders.
  • Must have strong research skills – capability to conduct interviews, focussed group discussion, collect primary survey is a key requisite.
  • Ability to adapt and deliver under tight deadlines in a professional environment
  • Ability and willingness to dig deeper into details, while also keeping a sense of the broader objectives and big picture

Compensation

Competitive compensation – commensurate to the experience and matching the best of standards adopted by industry or other similar organisations for similar roles.
