Designation offered Consultant - Communications (Hindi Writer/Editor)

Location Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh

Reporting to Programme Associate/Communications Specialist

Duration 1 June 2021 to 31 May 2022 (1year)


CEEW seeks to hire a dynamic communications consultant (full-time) to join the CEEW team in Lucknow. The candidate will also be proficient in content writing and editing in Hindi. The role will be crucial to showcase CEEW research and impact to a range of key stakeholders - government, industry, civil society, media, citizens – in Uttar Pradesh and beyond.

An ideal candidate would have worked earlier as a communications manager or content writer or journalist with exposure to sustainability issues or public policy. She or he would also be proficient in translating communication materials from English to Hindi. In addition to the duties and responsibilities below, the individual should be prepared, as and when necessary, to take on additional responsibilities.

Job Duties and Accountabilities

  • Coordinate a range of communication activities for CEEW’s office in Uttar Pradesh & Hindi speaking states with support from the outreach team in Delhi.
  • Draft, edit, and review all CEEW communication materials produced in Hindi. These include press notes, briefing notes, covering letters, presentations, brochures, website content, blogs, emailers, social media posts, etc.
  • Take charge of all English to Hindi translation tasks at CEEW. Utmost care must be taken to ensure that where there is no loss/change in meaning from English to Hindi.
  • Work closely with CEEW’s air quality and power teams in Uttar Pradesh to produce a range of communication materials in Hindi, especially for the website.
  • Work closely with the research team in Uttar Pradesh and the Communications Specialist to organise and publicise conferences, workshops, roundtables, public discussions, and media briefings in the state.
  • Work closely with the Communications Specialist to strengthen CEEW’s media relations and outreach in Uttar Pradesh and across major Hindi news outlets.
  • Identify and work closely with a range of vendors in Uttar Pradesh including translators, printers, designers, film makers, event vendors, hotels, etc.
  • Provide relevant and timely strategy inputs for the Uttar Pradesh-specific communications strategy.
  • Ensure strict adherence to CEEW branding guidelines.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Preferably Master’s/Bachelor’s degree in Hindi, Business Communications, Public Relations, Journalism or any related fields.
  • 1-3 years’ experience. Freshers with exceptional writing and storytelling skills may apply (writing samples will be required).
  • Excellent grasp of Hindi language and also should be comfortable with scientific writing in English & Hindi.
  • A fair understanding of environmental issues.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Excellent eye for detail.
  • Proven track record of delivering high quality Hindi written content for different mediums.
  • Exceptional business/science writing skills and demonstrated ability to calibrate communications to resonate with internal and external target audiences.
  • Prior experience in a media organisation/development sector organisation/PR organisation will be an advantage.
  • Creative thinker with demonstrated success in implementing out-of-the-box content ideas.
  • Demonstrated abilities to manage multiple priorities, projects and internal/external resources in a fast-paced environment, while meeting deadlines and quality standards.
  • Strong drive and initiative, a self-starter.
  • Ability to adapt and deliver under tight deadlines in a professional environment.
  • Ability and willingness to dig deeper into details, while also keeping a sense of the broader objectives and big picture.


Competitive compensation (INR 30,000 per month onwards) – commensurate to the experience and matching the best of standards adopted by industry or other similar organisations for similar roles.
