Job Summary

India stands at a complex challenge of ensuring universal nutritional security for an increasing yet largely deprived population in a rapidly changing climate. This needs action beyond producing more food – we need to evolve what we eat, how we produce and process our food, and how we process and distribute our food.

CEEW seeks to hire a suitable candidate for a role as a Consultant – Gender Specialist in the Sustainable Food Systems team to conduct research and drive change. We are looking for a detail-oriented researcher with a hunger for impact and the ambition to make our food system sustainable. The selected candidate will work on a project that evaluates evidence on climate adaptive water management practices. The candidate will support the development of a gendered lens for the project components. The successful applicant will also assist the team members in undertaking robust research and analysis.

Responsibilities and Duties

Research

  • Drive the evaluation design and analysis pertaining to the impact of gender mainstreaming in climate adaptive water management practices and interventions that are being evaluated, and in the capacity assessment for climate-smart agriculture and integrated water resources management.
  • Mainstream a gender lens throughout the project by understanding and classifying how an intervention seeks to engage with gender; defining gender-sensitive evaluation questions to address gender impact; and, methods and tools that are particularly helpful in answering such questions.
  • Support development of a gender-inclusive impact evaluation design for the project; guide development and addition of impact indicators for the evaluation.
  • Assist the team in systematic reviews and analysis to be undertaken for evidence research and impact analysis.
  • Lead/support engagement with stakeholders and partners on gender-inclusive adaptation in agriculture.

Shortlisting Criteria and Key skills

  • Masters in Water Resources Management/Agriculture/Development Studies/Public Policy/Gender or Women’s studies or related fields.
  • 3-5 years of experience with monitoring and evaluation, data, primary and secondary research on gender and/or livelihoods with a gender lens.
  • Strong track record of leading research and dissemination of outputs.
  • Experience in working on water resources management, climate change, food and agriculture issues and public policy.
  • Passion to drive impact and vision for small scale producers and women in agriculture.
  • Strong communication skills for effective, efficient, and adaptive verbal and written communication, and active listening.
  • Experience in dealing with stakeholders (farmers, grassroots workers, government, etc.) preferred.
  • Desirable: Relevant publications in peer-reviewed journals/book chapters.

Compensation
