Purpose
We are looking for a curious researcher for our Delhi office who has the ability to ask the right questions, conduct stellar research on the nexus between agriculture and air quality, conduct qualitative research to identify barriers and facilitators around crop residue management practices, summarise key findings into a lucid brief for policy briefing, and support the advancement of research and policy engagement for air quality. Structured thinking, coherent writing, and effective communication—these are the traits we are gunning for.
About the focus area
The Clean Air programme at CEEW is committed to reducing particulate concentrations in the Indo-Gangetic Plain by 60 per cent by 2030. Backed by rigorous data analysis, integrated research, and strategic communications and stakeholder engagement, our work is geared towards strengthening data-driven air quality management in the country. The three pillars guiding our work are:
- Data and integrated analysis
- Technical assistance to state and local governments
- Building agency among communities through strategic outreach
Job Duties and Accountabilities
Programme Assistance
- Regularly track policy measures taken by the government and their implementation status related to air quality, bioenergy, and the agricultural sector
- Visit farms in Punjab for qualitative research around crop residue management practices (Interviews, Focus Group Discussions)
- Write high-quality briefing notes, research reports, and generate other knowledge products such as blogs, and policy briefs at regular intervals
- Assist with project implementation, including help with preparing presentations, factsheets, and other communication material
- Support efforts to use media platforms for the wide dissemination of CEEW's work and, in turn, closer engagement with the wider community
- Participate in weekly team meetings and assist with preparing minutes
- Participate in relevant conferences, workshops, and training programmes for a comprehensive understanding of air quality management in India and globally. Accompany other team members for meetings with stakeholders; prepare minutes of the meetings and assist with relevant follow-up
Stakeholder Engagement
- Travel to field sites, whenever necessary, to conduct fieldwork including focus group discussions, interviews, meetings, and training
- Candidate must be willing to travel to Punjab regularly
- Support coordination and collect relevant data from relevant stakeholders (government officials, farmers, civil societies, and others) in Punjab
Shortlisting Criteria
Qualification
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree with a specialisation in Behavioural Science. Experience in behavioural science/qualitative research is preferred.
Key Skills
- Must be proficient in English and Hindi. Proficiency in Punjabi is desirable.
- Proficient in building relationships with stakeholders and leading conversations
- Strong proficiency with various qualitative research methods
- Ability to apply technical knowledge to varied socio-cultural, ecological, and political contexts
- Strong writing skills with the ability to write coherent and concise emails, opinion pieces, policy briefs, and reports
- Strong interpersonal skills, and confidence to engage with administrative, political, and business leaders
