Purpose
CEEW seeks to hire a dedicated researcher and a go-getter to assess the industrial emission and performances, monitoring practices, real-time monitoring implementation and challenges, and identify the solutions and extend capacity building support for stakeholders such as industries and regulators. The candidate will undertake relevant research, surveys, identify and consult stakeholders, and assess the suitable solutions and best practices. The candidate will also have to design and conduct studies to evaluate the impact of proposed solutions. The role offers an excellent opportunity to work with sector experts, technology manufacturers, international experts, industries, environmental regulators and policymakers. While the role is based in Patna, the candidate should be open to travelling frequently as and when needed.
The candidate must have experience in industrial operations, technology and performance assessment, environmental monitoring technology and practices, industry-related environmental regulations, and Training and capacity-building programmes. The candidate should demonstrate the ability to work across teams and manage multiple priorities. He/she should be detail-oriented, an eager learner, and committed to adhering to timelines.
In addition to the duties and responsibilities below, the individual should be prepared to take on additional responsibilities as and when necessary.
Job Duties and Accountabilities
Research and Programme Assistance
- To track industrial pollution scenarios, environmental performances, pollution norms, monitoring & reporting and compliance status and solutions in India vis-à-vis global best practices
- Research and report on industrial pollution policy/ regulations/norms in India vis-à-vis global standards and exploring a way forward
- Research on real-time pollution monitoring (CEMS and CAAQMS)- assessment, challenges and solutions and working with the relevant stakeholders to assist in successful implementation
- Survey (environmental/regulatory/industrial)- design, questionnaire development, execution, field visit, assessment of pre-post implementation scenario and report preparation
- Training and capacity building of stakeholders- regulators, industries and others on environmental regulations, performance, pollution monitoring and reporting, compliance and best practices.
- To be able to incorporate new tools and methodologies in the analysis of the specified sectors or subsectors
- To be able to write high-quality first drafts of reports, papers and analyses for internal and external circulation and be capable of generating knowledge content – blogs, and policy briefs at regular intervals
- To engage with relevant stakeholders from industries, policy experts, academicians
Selection Criteria
Qualification
- 0–2 years of experience with a Bachelor's/Master’s degree, preferably in electronics/instrumentation/mechanical/environmental/civil/chemical engineering or related fields
Work Experience
- Research experience and knowledge of India's environmental regime, policies & regulations, mandates, compliance checks and governance system, especially related to the industries, area must.
- Must understand industrial pollution monitoring, especially real-time monitoring systems—CEMS, CEQMS, and CAAQMS—and reporting mandates in India and overseas.
- Experience in environmental monitoring for industries and laboratory-based monitoring
- Knowledge of monitoring technologies, reporting technologies, best practices, advantages and limitations
- Experience working with CPCB, SPCB, MoEFCC and relevant agencies
Key Skills
- Strong research and analytical skills, including quantitative and qualitative
- Analysis skills for policy and regulations
- Experience in survey design and execution
- Ability to handle large datasets
- Experience working in Excel is essential. Experience with software programmes such as Python is a plus.
- Good oral and written communication skills

- The candidate should be willing to travel
