Designation offered Data Journalist/ Information Designer (Communications Associate/Specialist)

Job Location New Delhi, India or working remotely anywhere in the country

Reporting to Communications Specialist / Strategic Communications Lead

Duration 1-year contract extendable on mutual agreement and work satisfaction.

We invite applications from Data Journalists, Information Designers, and Data Visualisers who have a keen eye for finding stories in data and can help CEEW’s Outreach (communications) team to visualize and disseminate our research content in a clear and effective manner. Using creative visual strategies, the candidate will be expected to translate complex technical ideas into impactful content that is memorable and easier to comprehend.

Deliverables and Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with research teams to find important stories in data
  • Analyze and present data to tell specific stories through data visualization and infographics
  • Solve internal and external data visualization and communications challenges in a variety of formats including infographics, charts, diagrams, and maps
  • Research and recommend strategies to improve core data visualization deliverables for print and online mediums
  • Lead on design ideation for existing and new digital and print collaterals.
  • Suggest refinements to current products to constantly improve them
  • Lead periodic in-house data visualisation trainings and help build internal capacity

Other Responsibilities

  • Brainstorm creative design ideas to aid CEEW’s outreach and execute them.
  • Provide support during CEEW events and other Outreach responsibilities as called upon.

In addition to the duties and responsibilities above, the individual should be prepared, as and when necessary, to take on additional responsibilities.

Selection Criteria


Qualifications: Preferable – a PG diploma or degree in information design, data visualisation or graphic design. And/or certificates in design software use, and programming.

Work Experience and Other Skills

  • 2-3 years of experience in ideating and telling data stories (written, visual and digital mediums)
  • Knowledge of programming languages such as R and Python
  • Excellent understanding of Microsoft Excel
  • Professional design experience working in the field of data visualization/information design and advanced knowledge of data visualization softwares such as Tableau/D3.js/Power BI would be an advantage
  • Advanced knowledge of and experience using Adobe Cloud software
  • HTML 5, CSS 3, and Javascript knowledge is a plus
  • Ability to interpret and visualise geospatial data. Knowledge of QGIS will be a plus
  • Excellent understanding of human-centred design
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure.
  • Excellent eye for detail and ability to manage responsibilities independently.
