Designation offered Programme Associate – Research & Communications

Reporting to Director – Centre for Energy Finance

Location New Delhi, India

Start Date 15 July 2021

Purpose

The CEEW Centre for Energy Finance is looking to hire a Programme Associate who will be responsible in designing and implementing CEEW-CEF’s communication strategy to achieve the three key objectives of visibility, impact and relevance. The role will be crucial to showcase the team’s vast range of research to a wide constituency—comprising government, industry, civil society, media, and the public at large. The candidate will get exposure to the inner workings of one of India’s leading think tanks and will have the opportunity to understand the stakeholders that play a key role in the energy and environment space.

The candidate will be expected bring to the table, and build, networks with, the policymaking establishment as well as industry leaders. The candidate will also be expected to keep a tab on the market movements in sectors including solar, wind, electric vehicles and energy storage. This role would require the candidate to frequently switch between researcher and communication roles. Based on a need-gap analysis the candidate is also expected to design an outreach plan to address the requirements of the key stakeholders – policy makers, industry leaders, researchers etc. The outreach activity may be conducted either online or offline and may be of different formats – podcasts, webinars, twitter chat, short videos, blogs opeds etc.

Broadly, the candidate should be well versed with the clean energy sector and should be ready to invest time and energy in building relationships and designing new innovative communication strategies. He/She will be expected to think out of the box and take end to end responsibility on delivering on these outreach products which maximise the impact of the work.

Job Duties and Accountabilities

Research

  • Keep a tab on the key trends in the clean energy sector by interacting with colleagues from different teams at CEEW.
  • Follow CEEW-CEF’s research very closely and plug in the key recommendations and findings in conversations.
  • Conduct independent research and write/edit opinion pieces, blog posts, newsletters, webpages, press releases, emailers, film scripts, and other communication material.
  • Contribute to writing/editing blog pieces.
  • Build a strong public profile.

Communications

  • Build strong network with key industry leaders in the clean energy sector.
  • Work closely with outreach team and design a media strategy for CEEW-CEF team.
  • Work closely with the team to develop strategies to nurture deep relationships with the print and electronic media within and outside India.
  • Develop and implement interesting story/content ideas for different mediums and readers.

General Responsibilities

  • Assist with project implementation, including preparing presentations, factsheets and other communication material.
  • Assist administrative team for organisation of relevant events (whenever needed).
  • Support efforts to use new media platforms for wide dissemination of CEEW’s work and, in turn, closer engagement with the wider community.
  • Open to travel to project sites and India and outside.

Selection Criteria

Education

  • Preferably Master’s/Bachelor’s degree in Business Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, English or any related fields.

Experience

  • Minimum five years of relevant work experience.
  • Prior experience in a media organisation/development sector organisation/PR organisation will be an advantage.
  • Experience in dealing with public and private institutions within and outside India.
  • Experience of working with in the energy sector.

Main Skills

  • Sound understanding of India’s energy sector (specifically solar, wind, EV and energy storage markets).
  • Proven track record of delivering high quality written content for different mediums.
  • Exceptional business/science writing skills and demonstrated ability to calibrate communications to resonate with internal and external target audiences.
  • Excellent grasp of English language.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Excellent eye for detail.
  • Creative thinker with demonstrated success in implementing out-of-the-box content ideas.
  • Demonstrated abilities to manage multiple priorities, projects and internal/external resources in a fast-paced environment, while meeting deadlines and quality standards.
  • Strong drive and initiative, a self-starter.
  • Ability to communicate effectively as a team member.
  • Ability to analyse information and present in a clear and accurate manner.
  • Ability to work in multicultural teams.
  • Willingness to show initiative in order to handle unforeseen challenges.
