Purpose

CEEW seeks to hire a suitable candidate with good hands-on experience in handling large data sets, for the position of Programme Associate to expand its work in the energy sector. An ideal candidate should have strong data and econometric analysis skills, along with the ability to conduct large scale primary surveys. The candidate will also be responsible to support the organisation in analysing various existing data sets, such as the data from the National Sample Survey Office (NSSO), National Family Health Survey (NFHS), District Level Household Survey (DLHS), Census of India, India Human Development Survey (IHDS) or any other data sets available in the public domain. The candidate should have proficiency in using statistical software like STATA, R or Python.

Job Duties and Accountabilities

The candidate should be passionate about using statistical and econometric approaches to

  • Conduct large scale primary surveys and analysis of data, including sampling design, questionnaire development, enumerator training, data monitoring
  • Undertake various types of econometric analysis in STATA/R using various primary and secondary datasets
  • Write high-quality research reports and publish in leading peer-reviewed journals
  • Generate knowledge content – blogs, policy briefs in regular intervals
  • Assist in preparing presentations, fact sheets, and other research communication material
  • Assist and accompany senior team members for important meetings and sessions, prepare notes, and conduct follow-ups, as required
  • Assist in effective outreach of research outputs, through coordination with the outreach team, engagement with a wider network of stakeholders, and concerned policymakers.
  • Present research to key constituencies, advisory bodies, conferences and research institutes
  • Support other CEEW colleagues in building their data analysis and econometric skills
  • Reviewing various pieces of CEEW research for robustness of their methodology
  • To travel to project sites, when required, to monitor field surveys, conduct interviews or collect data for different research projects

Shortlisting Criteria

Education and Key Skills

  • Master’s degree in quantitative economics, statistics, development economics, public policy, energy economics or related field with a rigorous training in econometrics
  • Should have a strong research background, along with an understanding of all the advanced econometric approaches
  • Proficiency in using statistical software like STATA, R or Python
  • Ability to analyse and visualise large data sets
  • Ability to summarise and communicate the insights/findings as reports and presentations

Experience

  • 3-4 years of relevant work experience. Though candidates with extremely strong quantitative skills with lesser experience may also be considered
  • Some track record of project assistance and timely delivery of outputs

Main Skills

  • Strong analytical skills including sound knowledge of econometric analysis
  • Strong networking skills
  • Sound knowledge of basic economic principles
  • Good written and oral communication skills; Good report writing skills
  • Ability to use statistical software and MS Office application suite including MS Excel
  • Ability to represent the research and the organisation at national and international platforms
  • Desirable: Relevant publications in peer reviewed journals/book chapters
