Job Summary:

CEEW seeks to hire an experienced Programme Associate/ Programme Lead (data scientist) who will work with the mobility team to carry out extensive big data analysis with relevance to sustainable mobility. The candidate will lead CEEW’s work on researching key problems crippling urban transport in Indian cities and developing cutting-edge, scalable ITS solutions and tools using CV, ML and AI for city governments and larger public. The candidate should have extensive experience in building predictive models/tools using ML/AI and visualising spatial data using Geographic Information Systems (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS). S/he should be familiar with geospatial libraries such as GDAL and rasterio.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct analyses involving combination of multiple complex data layers, network analysis and detailed visualisation of the outputs. These data layers will include information on public transit, socio-economics of population, people movement, road-safety, pollution, congestion, land-use, and survey data.
  • Support team in Intelligent Transport Systems and mobility planning, especially multimodality, seamless integration of PT and IPT networks using alternative data sources and analysis. 
  • Support the development of predictive models/tools using ML and AI and thereby exposure to creating training datasets and deep learning models.
  • Conceptualise and implement new research projects and tools using mobility datasets to solve for various mobility issues in coordination with CEEW’s mobility team, academia and relevant government agencies.
  • Carry out data integration, and interact with professionals from the sector to socialise the research and tools developed.
  • Assist the team in generating snackable insights and compelling data visuals for the organisation’s social media platforms.
  • Carry out relevant literature reviews and summarize findings as reports.
  • Assist administrative team for organization of relevant events (whenever needed).

Selection Criteria

Education and experience

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree with specialisation in data science, transport planning, energy, public policy, operations research
  • The candidates must have 6-10 years of relevant prior experience in analysing big transport datasets, developing intelligent transport system tools and/or working with transit agencies
  • Prior experience of developing relevant tools/models using AI/ML in the field of transport are a pre-requisite
  • Interest in the transport and energy sector in India.

Key Skills

  • Experience carrying out data analysis on programmes such as Python, R, QGIS/ArcGIS are a pre-requisite
  • Must have strong research skills – capability to carry out literature review, and familiarity with research methods is a pre-requisite
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Willingness to work on multi-disciplinary projects
  • Ability and interest to train and mentor young team on subject
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Experience in dealing with stakeholders (industry, academic, government etc.) preferred
