CEEW seeks to hire a suitable candidate for the position of Programme Associate in the Renewable Energy team to expand its ongoing research work on supporting accelerated utility-scale RE deployment in India. We are looking for an enthusiastic, skilled, and detail-oriented researcher, with a specific focus on identifying and addressing technical, policy, regulatory, financial and market hurdles that inhibit the accelerated deployment of renewables. The candidate should possess a sound understanding of project planning and implementation processes, bidding mechanisms, business models, policy and regulatory frameworks governing project deployment, and risk mitigation strategies. The Renewable Energy team is one of the seven focus areas at the CEEW. Our work supports India’s - and the world’s - clean energy transition. It does so through timely, research-based interventions based on extensive policy, regulatory, market analyses and consumer-centric surveys. The team works on designing fit-for-purpose solutions that bring RE from the margins to the mainstream of power sector planning, operations and governance. The successful applicant will assist fellow researchers in undertaking robust quantitative and qualitative analysis. In addition to the duties and responsibilities outlined below, the candidate should be prepared, as and when necessary, to take on additional responsibilities and respond to events and developments that cannot be anticipated easily.

Job Duties and Accountabilities


  • Monitor and analyse day-to-day regulatory and policy developments in the renewable energy markets
  • Identify the evolving market risks hindering RE deployment. Build innovative approaches and solutions.
  • Identify new research questions and carry out in depth research with relevant literature review, stakeholder interactions, and new research methodologies.
  • Analyse renewable energy deployment and integration issues at state, regional and national level and conduct research around policy, regulatory, institutional changes and market-based mechanisms
  • Analyse large amounts of data using a variety of software tools and methodologies
  • Assist in understanding regulatory and market designs for enabling higher shares of renewables
  • Interact with stakeholders to collect inputs, validate analyses, and disseminate findings and recommendations
  • Travel to project sites, whenever necessary, to collect information and/or conduct meetings/interviews/trainings
  • Conceptualise new ideas based on research, stakeholder interactions and market monitoring and assist in fund-raising efforts
  • Publish quality research outputs as peer-reviewed papers/reports, blogs, opinion pieces

Programme Assistance

  • Assist in project implementation by contributing towards preparing detailed activity plan and timelines, resource planning, stakeholder management, and donor engagement
  • Contribute to the team’s outreach efforts including organising webinars/physical events, representing CEEW in industry events, and writing op-eds, briefs and reports.
  • Write memos, briefs and issue notes which could be circulated among senior Government officials and other internal and external stakeholders
  • Building stronger ties with government, industry and institutional partners

Selection Criteria


  • Strong academic credentials. Applicants with a Master’s degree with specialisation in power systems, renewable energy technologies, economics, public policy or related fields can apply. Applicants with Bachelor’s degree (engineering/economics/etc.) and equivalent experience are also encouraged to apply. Candidates with industry experience will be preferred
  • Sound understanding of India’s electricity markets, policy and regulatory environment, and project implementation and due-diligence processes
  • Should have a strong research background

Business Experience

  • Minimum 3 – 5 years of experience in the field of research, policy/industry engagement and project management, preferably in the area of electricity policy, renewable energy, energy systems
  • Prior experience of writing white papers, articles, policy briefs and research reports
  • Strong track record of project management and timely delivery of outputs
  • Experience in dealing with public and private institutions within and outside India

Main Skills

  • Superior analytical abilities and familiarity with research methods
  • Learning new tools to manage, process and drive insights from acquired data is key to this role
  • Understanding of programming languages, and software for quantitative analysis
  • Hands-on software like PVsyst, Helioscope, Homer, other simulation tools etc will be preferred
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Experience in or exposure to technical aspects of energy systems
  • Effective time management to work on multiple research projects at the same time
  • Ability and willingness to work in a dynamic and fluid environment
  • Ability to work on own initiative and communicate effectively as a team member
  • Ability to analyse information and present in a clear and accurate manner
  • Willingness to show initiative in order to handle unforeseen challenges
  • Ability to work in multicultural teams
