CEEW seeks to hire a programme associate to expand its work on understanding the interlinkages between vehicular emissions and air quality across India’s geography, with a special focus on the IGP. The chosen candidate will work across the mobility and air quality teams to qualitatively and quantitatively assess the impact of travel demand management and technology transition measures on a city’s air quality.  The candidate should be open to engaging with relevant government and civil society stakeholders in developing strategies for reducing transport sector emissions in the country.

Job Duties and Accountabilities

Research and Programme Assistance

  • To track national and state-level policy interventions aimed at reducing vehicular emissions across fleet segments and use cases.
  • To conduct qualitative interviews with relevant government departments to assess current and future plans for augmenting use of non-private travel modes
  • To quantitatively analyse the air pollution reduction potential of various travel demand management measures that can be implemented in a city.
  • To quantitatively analyse the energy and air pollution reduction potential of various fuel and technology improvement mechanisms, that can be implemented.
  • To design and execute field surveys and studies to assess the feasibility of implementing various transport, mobility and traffic mgmt. interventions
  • To develop new and improve existing methodologies on assessing interlinkages between any changes in passenger and freight mobility, traffic-flow, and air quality in a city.
  • To ground research effectively between civil society, govt stakeholder and industry /operators
  • To translate research findings into policy recommendations
  • To provide research content for the organisation's web pages, blogs, issue briefs, etc
  • To engage with relevant stakeholders from industries, government, policy experts, academicians
  • To participate in relevant conferences, workshops, training programmes for a comprehensive understanding of air quality management in India and globally

Selection Criteria

Education and Experience

  • Master’s degree in environmental engineering, transport engineering, transport planning, economics or environmental science
  • Prior experience of working on emission assessments, air quality data analysis and data visualisation.

Main Skills

  • Strong analytic skills including quantitative research skills
  • Experience with emission models is must
  • Experience in working with QGIS, MS Office suite.
  • Experience in working with data manipulation tools such as Stata, R or Python would be an added bonusUnderstanding of traffic flow modelling is desirable 
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Experience in engaging with relevant stakeholders from the government and industry.
