CEEW seeks to hire an ambitious and diligent individual who would be keen to work in the area of innovation to impact and policy advocacy. As part of the Renewable Energy team at The Council, the individual would be the primary point person for CEEW in states and would collaborate with fellow team members to deliver on advancing energy transition. The position offers a multitude of opportunities to work with state officials private sector stakeholders towards formulating policies, regulations, new programmes and schemes, demonstration pilots, developing roadmaps etc., as well as providing implementation support. The engagement would be on various topics, including distributed RE for various end-use applications, utility RE procurement, circular economy, just transition, manufacturing, co-benefits of RE etc.

The role would entail engagement with multiple stakeholders of the Indian electricity distribution ecosystem, viz. distribution companies, state and central governments, regulatory commissions, state nodal agencies, residents’ associations, local bodies, and residential consumers. Candidate must possess solid project management skills, strong communication skills, research skillset, analytical abilities, significant bias towards action, and a zeal to learn and create impact. Familiarity with designing and implementing pilot projects, programmes, schemes and their monitoring and evaluation would be highly useful.

Job Duties and Accountabilities


  • Monitor and analyse day-to-day regulatory and policy developments and market landscape for renewable energy technologies in the state
  • Identify potential stakeholders in states and build stronger ties with them.
  • Plan and execute events, meetings, and other stakeholder engagement activities for the successful implementation of various activities
  • Effectively engage and communicate project/programmes/schemes objectives and benefits to relevant stakeholders such as government officials, distribution companies, regulatory bodies, industry stakeholders, local civil society organisations, and community members for their buy-in and approvals
  • Assist with CEEW communication activities, including preparing presentations, factsheets and other communication material


  • Identify pertinent research questions and carry out in-depth research with relevant literature review, stakeholder interactions, and new research methodologies.
  • Identify the evolving market risks hindering RE deployment in the state and conduct research around policy, regulatory, institutional changes and market-based mechanisms.
  • Conduct in-depth research towards formulating new programmes and schemes for the state 
  • Analyse large amounts of data using a variety of software tools and methodologies
  • Publish quality research outputs as peer-reviewed papers/reports, blogs, opinion pieces

Project Management

  • Manage the implementation of pilot projects, programmes, and schemes proposed based on CEEW’s ongoing work 
  • Assist in project implementation by contributing towards preparing detailed activity plans and timelines, resource planning, stakeholder management, and donor engagement
  • Work in close coordination with the research team in Delhi and manage project deliverables and resources within time
  • Provide necessary implementation support to state departments/officials on new programmes or ideas proposed by CEEW.
  • To write briefs and issue notes which could be circulated among senior Government of India officials and other stakeholders.
  • Travel to project sites, whenever necessary, to conduct meetings/interviews/training or collect primary information.

Selection Criteria


  • Strong academic credentials. Applicants preferably with a Master’s degree with a specialisation in power systems, renewable energy technologies, economics, public policy or related fields can apply. Should have a strong research background
  • A sound understanding of India’s electricity sector (specifically solar and wind markets) and policy and regulatory environment is preferred.

Business experience

  • Minimum 3 – 5 years of experience in the field of research, policy/industry engagement and project management, preferably in the area of electricity policy, renewable energy, energy systems;
  • Prior experience in writing white papers, articles, policy briefs and research reports
  • Strong track record of project management and timely delivery of outputs
  • Experience in dealing with public and private institutions within and outside India
