Location Lucknow, India
Purpose
CEEW seeks to hire a Research Analyst for its Power Sector team. Our power sector programme is driven with the mission to support the clean energy transition in India by examining and promoting operational, financial, and environmental sustainability throughout the value chain of the electricity sector through evidence-based, objective research and cutting-edge analytical approaches. We are looking for an enthusiastic, skilled, and detail-oriented researcher with a specific focus on contributing to the ongoing power distribution reform programme for a financially sustainable and resilient power distribution sector.
The successful applicant will assist fellow researchers in undertaking robust quantitative and qualitative analysis and analytically reviewing existing and upcoming regulations, petitions, and regulatory orders. The candidate should also be adept with handling and analysing large datasets using statistical tools such as STATA, R, Python, etc. In addition to the duties and responsibilities outlined below, the candidate should be prepared, as and when necessary, to take on additional responsibilities and respond to events and developments that cannot be anticipated easily.
Job Duties and Accountabilities
The candidate would be expected to:
- Understand and keep tabs on the power distribution sector and the regulations and policies governing it
- Assist the team in conceptualising and implementing projects related to the power distribution sector
- Regularly track important developments (policy and technical) in the sector through rigorous literature review and share the summary with team members
- Assist in writing high-quality research reports and publishing in leading peer-reviewed journals
- Analyse large and high-frequency datasets to draw useful insights for the team and other stakeholders
- Assist in the stakeholder engagement strategy, identifying and prioritizing key external stakeholders like government representatives, NGOs, consumer associations, knowledge partners, etc.
- Generate knowledge content through blogs and policy briefs and prepare presentations, fact sheets, and other research communication material
- Travel to project sites across multiple states to conduct interviews and collect data for different research projects
Selection Criteria
Qualification
- A Master’s degree in economics, development economics, public policy, energy economics or related disciplines such as energy management would be desirable.
- Having an understanding of the electricity distribution sector and its regulatory environment would be desirable.
- Proficiency in using statistical software like MS Excel, STATA, R or Python
Experience
- 0-3 years of relevant work experience; candidates with strong research skills but with lesser experience may also be considered
- Strong track record of project assistance and timely delivery of outputs
- Past track record of working with public and private stakeholders
- Prior publications in peer-reviewed journals/book chapters would be a bonus
