The Risks and Adaptation team seeks to hire a Research Analyst to expand its work in the area of air pollution management. The Research Analyst should have a clear understanding of government decision-making and functioning of urban local governments in India.  The ideal candidate for this role should have prior knowledge of urban development programmes in India, an understanding of municipal finances, and experience in stakeholder engagement.  We are looking for someone who can ideate and execute while adhering to project timelines.

Job Duties and Accountabilities


  • To collect data on municipal revenues and spending by reviewing relevant government documents, and conducting interviews/consultations with relevant stakeholders
  • To develop a clear understanding of demands-in-aid received by local governments for air quality improvements in their jurisdiction
  • To collect and analyse data on utilisation of funds received by urban local bodies for air quality improvements
  • To distil and communicate key insights from on-going analyses with the team
  • To contribute to a dedicated webpage on air quality through timely, relevant and well-written blogs.
  • To keep a tab on the policy developments in India and across key countries of the world on air pollution
  • To assist the team to work on multi-disciplinary projects, proposal writing and project development.
  • To engage with government stakeholders to understand their research requirements
  • To convene stakeholders to communicate research findings

Project/Programme Assistance

  • To contribute to publications including policy briefs, reports as well as publish in high-quality peer reviewed national and international journals
  • To participate in relevant conferences, workshops, training programmes for a comprehensive understanding of developments relevant to air quality issues
  • Assist with project implementation, including help with preparing presentations and policy material.
  • Support effective communication of research outputs, through close coordination with outreach
  • team, engagement with wider network of stakeholders, and concerned policymakers
  • Support senior team members for important meetings and sessions, prepare notes, and conduct follow-ups, as required
  • Participate in weekly team meetings and assist with preparing minutes.

Selection Criteria


  • Master’s degree in Urban Planning/Environmental Policy/Political Science or Economics.
  • Should be inclined towards analytical research
  • Experience of having worked or researched on urban development schemes in India is preferred


  • 1-3 years
