Designation offered: Research Intern – Sustainable Mobility

Reporting to: Himani Jain (Senior Programme Lead)

Location: Kochi, Kerala

Duration: 5-6 months, starting from February 2021

Job Summary:

CEEW seeks to hire an Intern (01 position) who will assist the sustainable mobility team in carrying out research on impact of solar-powered boats for fishing. The work may require field visits and coordination with various stakeholders. In addition to the duties and responsibilities outlined below, the intern should be prepared, as and when necessary, to take on additional responsibilities. 

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Conduct qualitative interviews with industry, researchers, government stakeholders, enterprises, key beneficiaries (fishermen) and other actors in the marine fishing value-chain to understand the waterways sector and marine fishing in India.
  • Support the team in carrying out socio-economic pre-post survey design, evaluation to measure the impact of solar-powered boats on the income, expenditure and livelihood of fishermen.
  • Analyse extensive data collected through qualitative and quantitative surveys.
  • Carry out relevant literature reviews and summarize findings as reports.
  • Assist administrative team for organization of relevant events (whenever needed)

Shortlisting Criteria

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree with specialisation in Electrical/Energy/Urban Planning/mobility/transport engg or related programmes.
  • Candidates with prior research experience of conducting desk-top research are desirable.
  • A basic understanding of the electric vehicle sector in India would be appreciated.

Key skills

  • Must have strong research skills – capability to carry out literature review is a key requisite, familiarity with research methods is a bonus
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience working with software programmes such as MS Office, R, STATA are preferred
  • Willingness to conduct frequent field visits/meetings with stakeholder
  • Willingness to work on multi-disciplinary projects
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Experience in data collection preferred
  • Experience in dealing with stakeholders (industry, academic, government etc.) preferred
  • Proficiency in speaking regional language (Malayalam) is desirable
