Position offered Research Intern – Air Pollution

Reporting to Research Analyst

Location New Delhi or Lucknow, India (or remote)

Duration 3 months, extendable upon review

Purpose

CEEW seeks to hire a Research Intern for its Risks and Adaptation (RAP) programme to expand its work in the space of air pollution. The chosen candidate will support the RAP team to carry out extensive quantitative and qualitative research, including literature review, data analysis, and would support the advancement of the research and policy engagement for air quality. In view of the COVID pandemic, the candidate will be required to work from home. However, as and when the situation improves, the candidate should be flexible to move to New Delhi or Lucknow.

Job Duties and Accountabilities

Research

  • To carry out literature review and summarize findings as reports to aid senior researchers on air pollution research.
  • To manage an archival system for reports on latest research developments and policy developments in India and across the world, pertinent to air pollution.
  • To map and digitise primary geo-spatial data using tools like QGIS, Google earth (previous QGIS experience desirable, but not mandatory).
  • To process and work with datasets related to air pollution.
  • To provide rich research content for the organisation's web pages, blogs, issue briefs etc.
  • To engage with relevant stakeholders from industries, policy experts, academicians.
  • To participate in relevant conferences, workshops, training programmes for a comprehensive understanding of the air quality management in India and globally.

Programme Assistance

  • Assist with project implementation, including help with preparing presentations, factsheets and other communication material.
  • Support efforts to use new media platforms for wide dissemination of CEEW's work and, in turn, closer engagement with the wider community.
  • Participate in weekly team meetings and assist with preparing minutes.
  • Accompany the other team members for meetings with other stakeholders; prepare minutes of the meetings and assist with relevant follow up.

Shortlisting Criteria

Education and Experience

  • Enrolled in or completed Bachelor’s/Master’s degree with a specialisation in Civil, Environmental Science, Environmental Policy or Urban Planning.
  • Familiarity with environmental and in particular air pollution and urban governance in the country would be desirable.

Main Skills

  • Must have strong research skills – capability to carry out systematic literature review, web-scraping and synthesis is a key requisite, familiarity with research methods is a bonus.
  • Strong analytic skills including quantitative research skills.
  • Good written and oral communication skills; Good report writing skills
  • Desirable: Experience in working with QGIS, geospatial and other big datasets related to air quality

  • Willingness to learn new (research and project management) skills.
  • Ability to adapt to the new environment and deliver under tight deadlines in a professional environment.
  • Striving for rigour in research and quality in work output.
  • Ability to effectively work in a team while being able to independently drive research with minimum assistance, when time demands.
