Purpose
CEEW seeks to hire a candidate to conduct research on resource adequacy and the value of reliability that power system resources bring to the grid. The research area focuses on the Power markets thematic area to expand its ongoing research work on renewable energy technologies, policies, power markets and grid integration. CEEW offers an intellectually challenging and conducive work environment, with a focus on research rigour, innovative thinking, and consensus-building. We are looking for an enthusiastic, skilled, and detail-oriented researcher with a specific focus on identifying and addressing technical, policy, regulatory, and market hurdles that inhibit the accelerated deployment of renewable energy in the power system. Job duties and accountabilities
The successful applicant will assist fellow researchers in undertaking robust quantitative and qualitative analyses. Outlined below are the key duties and responsibilities of this role.
Research
- Review recent reports, journal papers, and other relevant research publications on capacity credit methodologies for generation sources, undertaken at the national and sub-national level.
- Collect and collate data to create comprehensive state-level databases for further analyses and modelling.
- Understand modelling (or tool) architectures, and assist in building ELCC methodology and outlook.
- Analyse gaps in applying ELCC methodologies from an Indian context at the state, regional and national level and ELCC methodologies present in existing tools.
- Assist in understanding new techniques used for demand forecasting and processes used in capacity credit and accreditation processes for ELCC in developed or demonstrated in emerging and developing countries and relevance in resource adequacy.
Programme Assistance
- Assist with project implementation, including preparing presentations, factsheets and other communication material.
- Contribute to reports and other research products as part of the research team.
- Accompany team members for meetings with other stakeholders; and assist with relevant follow up.
- Assist in organising webinars, workshops and roundtables as part of the team’s outreach efforts.
Selection Criteria
Education
- Enrolled in or completed a Master’s degree with a specialisation in power systems, energy systems, renewable energy technologies, or related fields.
- Previous internships in any related fields would be an advantage.
Skills
- Strong ability to organise, process, and analyse large data sets that are used and derived through power/energy models.
- Ability to learn new tools to manage, process and drive insights from acquired data.
- Understanding of programming languages like Python, R, and other software, primarily MS-Excel, for performing quantitative analysis / power sector simulations.
- Understanding of India’s power markets and policy and regulatory environment, and familiarity with research methods.
- Ability to effectively work in an interdisciplinary team while being able to independently drive research with minimum assistance, when time demands.
