Designation offered: Research Intern – Renewable Energy

Reporting to: Programme Associate

Duration: 4 to 6 months

Location: New Delhi, India

Purpose:

CEEW seeks to hire a Research Intern in the Renewable Energy team to expand its ongoing research work on renewable energy technologies, policies, power markets and grid integration. CEEW offers an intellectually challenging and conducive work environment, with a focus on research rigour, innovative thinking, and consensus-building. We are looking for an enthusiastic, skilled, and detail-oriented researcher with a specific focus on identifying and addressing technical, policy, regulatory, and market hurdles that inhibit the accelerated deployment of renewable energy in the power system.

The Renewable Energy team is one of the seven focus areas at the CEEW. Our work supports India’s - and the world’s - clean energy transition. It does so through timely, research-based interventions based on extensive policy, regulatory, and market analyses. The team works on designing fit-for-purpose solutions mitigating barriers to the deployment of RE. It also works on identifying wholesale and retail side market reforms, and new market designs that can enhance the depth of power markets, promote new, clean and flexible technology options, and ease integration of utility and distributed RE. The team also assesses, through surveys, India’s renewable energy jobs potential and skills requirement, the risks facing renewable energy investments, and designing strategic financial mechanisms to address the identified risks. We recommend applicants visit the renewable energy team page on the CEEW website for more details about our projects.

  • Understand modelling (or tool) architectures, and assist in conducting power system modelling studies
  • Analyse renewable energy deployment and integration issues at the state, regional and national level
  • Assist in understanding new power market designs and regulatory interventions developed or demonstrated in emerging and developing countries for enabling high RE shares

Programme Assistance

  • Assist with project implementation, including preparing presentations, factsheets and other communication material
  • Contribute to reports and other research products as part of the research team
  • Accompany team members for meetings with other stakeholders; and assist with follow up

  • Ability to learn new tools to manage, process and drive insights from acquired data
  • Understanding of programming languages like Python, R, and other software, primarily MS-Excel, for performing quantitative analysis / power sector simulations
  • Understanding of India’s power markets and policy and regulatory environment, and familiarity with research methods
  • Ability to effectively work in an interdisciplinary team while being able to independently drive research with minimum assistance, when time demands
