Designation offered Research Intern - Carbon Capture and Sequestration (CCS)

Reporting to Consultant - ISC

Location New Delhi, India/Remote

Duration 6 months


CEEW seeks to hire a Research Intern primarily for its Industrial Sustainability and Competitiveness (ISC) programme. The chosen candidate will support the ISC team to carry out extensive research on the prospects of carbon capture and sequestration (CCS) in India. The candidate will be primarily responsible for mapping potential sequestration sites, model the supply chain from source to sink, and do the techno economic analysis of CO2 sequestration. The candidate will be required to work from home. Candidates with Petroleum/ Chemical/ Environmental engineering and Geoscience background are encouraged to apply for this position.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

The successful applicant is expected to assist in the following: 


  • To understand the working of various carbon capture storage technologies and processes
  • To work on the techno economic analysis of each value chain of CO2 sequestration (capture, transport, injection and storage)
  • To carry out relevant literature review and summarize findings as reports
  • To analyse data using tools like MS Excel, Python, Arc-GIS etc.
  • To work with senior researchers on the conclusion of findings
  • To provide research content for organisation's web pages, blogs, policy briefs etc.
  • To engage with relevant stakeholders from industries, policy experts, academicians

Project/programme assistance

  • Assist with project implementation, including help with preparing presentations, factsheets and other communication material.
  • Support efforts to use new media platforms for wide dissemination of CEEW's work and, in turn, closer engagement with the wider community.
  • Participate in weekly team meetings and assist with preparing minutes.
  • Accompany the other team members for meetings with other stakeholders; prepare minutes of the meetings and assist with relevant follow up.

Selection Criteria


  • Enrolled in or completed Master's/PhD degree with specialisation in Petroleum/ Chemical/ Environmental Engineering / Geoscience or related programmes.
  • Data analytics, and industrial processes are preferable.
  • 0 – 1 year of relevant research experience.
  • A fair understanding of CO2 sequestration would be appreciated.

Key Skills

  • Must have strong research skills – capability to carry out literature review, web-scraping and synthesis is a key requisite, familiarity with research methods is a bonus
  • Understanding of techno-economics assessment, CO2 sequestration
  • Experience working with software programmes such as MS Office, Arc-GIS
  • Knowledge of MATLAB, tableau and spatial analysis tools like ArcGIS, are preferred but not mandatory
  • Willingness to work on multi-disciplinary projects
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Experience in data collection and generation preferred

  • Ability to adapt and deliver under tight deadlines in a professional environment.
