Purpose
Council on Energy, Environment and Water (CEEW) Clean Air team is seeking a Research Intern to join its Clean Air team to expand its work in the area of air pollution. The chosen candidate will support the Clean Air team in carrying out quantitative and qualitative research, including a literature review, maintaining data repository, and data analysis, and would support the advancement of the research and policy engagement for air quality. In addition to the specific duties outlined, the candidate must be flexible and adaptable to respond to unexpected events and developments as they arise.

Job duties and accountabilities
Research
- To analyse air quality data from different sources such as Continuous Ambient Air Quality Monitoring Stations, meteorological datasets, satellite observations, etc.
- To analyse satellite data including Sentinel-2, SUOMI/NPP(VIIRS), etc. to assess the burnt area in Punjab and Haryana following the stubble burning.
- To provide research content for the organisation's web pages, blogs, issue briefs, etc.
- To participate in relevant conferences, workshops, and training programmes for a comprehensive understanding of air quality management in India and globally.
Programme assistance
- Assist with project implementation, including help with preparing presentations, factsheets and other communication material.
- To assist the team in working on multi-disciplinary projects, research writing and project development.
- Support efforts to use new media platforms for wide dissemination of CEEW's work and, in turn, closer engagement with the wider community.
- Support effective communication of research outputs, through close coordination with outreach.
- Participate in weekly team meetings and assist with preparing minutes.
- Support senior team members in important meetings and sessions, minutes of the meetings, and assist with follow-ups, as required.
Selection Criteria
Qualification
- Bachelor’s/ Master’s degree in science, engineering and allied fields.
Work experience
- Desirable - 0-6 months of experience in data science/programming.
Key skills
- Must be able to code, preferably in Python.
- Desirable - Experience with tools such as QGIS, ArcGIS, Google Earth Engine, etc.
- Must have strong written and communication skills for effective, efficient, and adaptive verbal and written communication, and active listening.
- Must have strong research skills – the capability to carry out systematic literature review, and familiarity with research methods is a bonus.
