Purpose
CEEW is seeking to hire a Research Intern with strong analytical skills to join our Industrial Sustainability team, focusing on the decarbonisation of the construction industry in India. The role will be vital in advancing CEEW’s research by conducting data analysis and developing models to inform energy transition/decarbonisation strategies in this sector. The successful candidate will support the IS team’s efforts by conducting industry surveys and engaging with leading architects, civil engineers, and structural engineers to assess the sustainability landscape of India’s building and construction sector. This position offers exposure to the workings of a world-leading climate think tank and the opportunity to engage with key stakeholders in the construction space. This role provides an excellent prospect to contribute to the decarbonisation efforts in a key industrial sector and to work at the forefront of India’s energy transition.
The candidate should have excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to make detailed presentations to various stakeholders and write informative reports in technical English. The candidate should demonstrate the ability to work across teams and manage multiple priorities and should be detail-oriented and committed to adhering to timelines. In addition to the duties and responsibilities below, the individual should be prepared, as and when necessary, to take on additional responsibilities.
Job duties and accountabilities
- Supporting the design and execution of surveys to gather primary data from key industry stakeholders.
- Conducting industry surveys and engaging with leading architects, civil engineers, and structural engineers.
- Conducting in-depth industry research to map current sustainability trends, challenges, and opportunities.
- Analysing survey data and synthesizing key insights to inform policy and industry recommendations.
- Supporting the development of analytical models and frameworks for assessing decarbonisation pathway.
- Help in preparing research briefs, reports, and presentations based on survey findings and industry analysis.
- Collaborating with the team to contribute to broader research initiatives on industrial sustainability.
Selection Criteria
Qualification
- Bachelor’s/master’s degree, preferably in civil/structural engineering, architecture, data science or a related field with a focus on sustainability.
- Experience in conducting industry research through surveys, interviews, and data collection, with an ability to engage effectively with stakeholders.
- Proficiency in data analysis and visualization using tools such as Excel, Python, R, or Power BI to interpret survey results and industry trends.
- Understanding of decarbonisation and energy transition strategies, including familiarity with sustainable construction materials, circular economy principles, and embodied carbon assessment.
- Knowledge of policy frameworks and regulatory mechanisms related to industrial sustainability, with an ability to assess and recommend policy interventions for the construction sector.

- Solid understanding of structural engineering principles is a plus.
- Ability to develop and apply statistical and technical models relevant to industrial decarbonisation.
