Notable because

India’s electric vehicle (EV) ecosystem is expanding rapidly, with over a million registrations in FY25 by October. While strong policy support is pivotal, scaling new technologies like battery swapping could further transform the sector by addressing key adoption challenges. Battery swapping provides a faster and better solution than charging, especially for commercial fleets and urban transport. Upcoming guidelines on battery swapping will streamline this infrastructure, strengthen EV adoption, and support India’s mobility transition.

What to look out for in the months ahead

Given that the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MORTH) has allowed electric two-wheeler (E2W) and electric three-wheeler (E3W) manufacturers to sell vehicles without batteries, and considering that batteries constitute a significant portion of EV prices, will this lead to a reduction in the prices of E2Ws and E3Ws which offers battery swapping? How will this affect the EV uptake?
