Dr Dhruba Purkayastha (he/him) is the Director for Growth and Institutional Advancement with Council on Energy, Environment and Water (CEEW), a leading public policy think tank, research and analysis non-profit institution in India.
Prior to CEEW, Dhruba was the India Director for Climate Policy Initiative (CPI), a global non-profit research and advisory institution, working on sustainable finance and financing energy transition. Before CPI, Dhruba worked with the International Finance Corporation as the Program Manager for Advisory work in India and with The World Bank as a Senior Specialist in the South Asia Finance and Private sector unit in lending operations for infrastructure and clean energy financing, public-private partnerships in infrastructure, improving access to finance for SME, and improving investment climate in developing countries.
Dhruba has also led the Regulatory Group for Sustainable Finance Task Force set up by the Ministry of Finance, Government of India. He currently serves as the Chairperson of the Climate Finance Committee at the International Financial Services Centres Authority (IFSCA) and a member of the CII Net Zero Council for India. He has over 30 years of experience in engineering industries, credit rating, management consulting, investment banking, and international development financing and has worked on project assignments in many Asian countries, including Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Maldives, Afghanistan, Bhutan, Philippines, Indonesia, and Korea.
Dhruba is also a visiting faculty at IIM Calcutta for Climate Economics and Finance. He holds an engineering degree and a postgraduate management degree from IIM Calcutta, as well as a PhD in Financing Infrastructure and Clean Energy from IIT Delhi.
