Efficient and financially viable power distribution companies (discoms) are at the centre of India’s clean energy transition. The Council’s researchers in Lucknow and Delhi work closely with the discoms and regulators, particularly in Uttar Pradesh, to propose and implement solutions for improving the billing and collection efficiency, optimising power procurement costs through merit-order dispatch and market-based procurement, and subsidy targeting.
To this end, the team relies on data-driven approaches, such as consumer surveys, focus group discussions, and big data analysis, along with engagement with key stakeholders such as state electricity regulators, discoms’ employee unions, sector activists, educational and skill training institutes, and the end-consumers.
