Research Analyst

Sarthak Gupta has joined The Council as a Research Assistant with the Clean Air team. As a behavioural scientist at The Council, his work focuses on designing and testing behavioural interventions across various projects in the Clean Air team. He aspires to facilitate the integration of behavioural science across all levels of initiative and public policy.

He holds a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) degree in Economics from the University of Delhi and a Master of Science in Behavioural Science from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). During his undergraduate studies, he delved into the complexities of existing economic models and their limitations in practical applications. This led Sarthak to discover the field of behavioural science and its multifaceted relevance across various sectors. To demonstrate its practical applicability, he completed his master's dissertation exploring the effects of mortality salience as a component of coercive diplomacy tactics employed against non-state armed actors.

Prior to joining The Council, Sarthak interned with the Niti Aayog (formerly known as The Planning Commission) as part of the Economics and Finance team. During his tenure, he contributed to various projects, including preparing India for the G20 presidency, compiling the 2023-24 Union Budget, the Smart Cities project, and the 2047 mission.

Sarthak's varied interests are reflected in his philosophy of constant experimentation. His photography expertise spans landscapes, portraits, and street scenes, showcasing his belief in the evocative power of visual storytelling. A seasoned cyclist and adventurer, he also finds expression in music and film, boasting self-taught proficiency in film direction and professional editing honed through the creation of numerous short films.
