Sowmia is part of the sustainable mobility team at the Council, where she focuses on city planning, spatial analysis and environmental impacts to devise sustainable mobility solutions. Sowmia holds an undergraduate degree in Architecture from the Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology, Nagpur and a Masters degree in Environmental Planning from the School of Planning and Architecture Bhopal. She has also completed WWF-India and National Law University, Delhi’s Post Graduate Diploma in Environmental Law and Policy.

Sowmia has worked in several aspects of sustainability with organisations such as COSTFORD and Biome Environmental Trust. She has worked on mapping the Sustainable Development Goals through earth observation for the city of Kochi.

In her free time, Sowmia enjoys reading, art and spending time with animals.
