Varadharajan Venkatesh

Programme Lead

Varadharajan is currently engaged in The Council’s Power Markets program. He has over 10 years of experience in the renewable energy sector working with various stakeholders in his journey. He has developed a view of the sector through the lens of a developer, a manufacturer and an investor. His work focusses on evaluation of renewable energy policy schemes at utility scale, building flexible grids to enable better integration of renewable energy and developing robust market mechanisms to drive sustainable energy growth.

Prior to joining The Council, Varadharajan worked with different consulting firms to execute build RE portfolio through development and acquisition of assets. His work within the power sector primarily revolves around wind power. Varadharajan has assisted in development of wind power by executing multiple projects spanning technical due diligence, product acceptance testing, testing of prototype assets and valuation of renewable assets. Varadharajan has performed on-field testing for over 50+ wind turbines assessing their performance to generate power and to ensure that the turbines can be integrated into the grid. He has worked on developing capacity planning for multiple utilities in the India and APAC region focussing on renewable power integration. He has conducted studies revolving integration of renewable power to aid in transition to renewables, establishing capacity planning metrics, enabling load growth through renewables.

Varadharajan holds a bachelors in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Anna University and a Masters in Power Engineering with Business from the University of Strathclyde, UK. Varadharajan enjoys cooking and conversations on food.
