Yashita has joined The Council as a Consultant with the Sustainable Water team. Yashita initially joined The Council as an intern where she contributed to research on pathways to climate resilience. During her internship, she worked extensively on risk analysis and the WASH sector in India, culminating her contribution to the ongoing report on WASH.
Yashita's research encompasses a wide range of topics, such as fisheries, rivers, waterways, oceans, and the interaction of political, socioeconomic, and ecological factors in fragile riverine and coastal ecosystems. Her area of interest is investigating how livelihoods, the environment, and climate change interact in coastal and riparian areas.
Prior to joining The Council, Yashita worked with Manthan Adhyayan Kendra where her primary research focused on the National Waterways of India specific to waterways of North East India and the Indo-Bangladesh protocol route, the Sundarbans region, and international connectivity via waterways. Monitoring, tracking, and researching these waterways through official sources, news updates, and field trips comprised the majority of her work in Manthan.
She holds a Master's degree in Environment and Development from Ambedkar University Delhi, and has completed her Master's dissertation on the class dynamics and socio-natures of aquaculture in a village of Sundarbans. The study focused on the ecology of a mangrove island nation and how livelihood is impacted and subjected to climate change and further how these socio-economic activities affect the local ecology of the region.
Beyond her professional work, Yashita has deep interest in both local and international politics. She is an avid traveler and enjoys hiking, birdwatching, and immersing herself in diverse cultures by interacting with various communities. In her spare time she likes to explore historical monuments, sit by the beach, dance, read and meet her friends.
