Notable because

India announced the National Green Hydrogen Mission (NGHM) in January 2022, aiming to achieve at least 5 MMT production capacity of green hydrogen (GH2) pa by 2030. Since then, several states have announced their green hydrogen policies. Uttar Pradesh has become the sixth state to release GH2 policy. The policy’s initial focus is to produce GH2 for fertiliser industries and refineries with a target of building 1 MMT of GH2 production capacity pa by 2028.

What to look out for in the months ahead

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) recently announced the scheme guidelines for setting up GH2 hubs in India under the NGHM. At least two such hubs will be set up by the financial year 2025–26 (FY26). Uttar Pradesh’s GH2 policy provides significant incentives such as a 10–30% capital subsidy, waivers on open access charges, and energy banking facilities. With this, will the state become a potential location for GH2 hubs?
