Aastha Bafna

Programme Associate

Aastha is a Programme Associate with The Council's Sustainable Food Systems team, where her work focuses on long-term food systems modelling and the dairy and animal husbandry sector. She is interested in understanding how structural shifts in food systems can be grounded in the everyday realities of those who produce our food.

Before joining The Council, Aastha served as Visiting Faculty for Master's students in Economics in Mumbai. She has volunteered with organisations like Teach for India and spent time in the field working directly with farming communities — experiences that have shaped how she thinks about policy and its reach. Aastha holds a Master's in Economics and a Bachelor of Laws degree.

Outside of work, Aastha enjoys attending cultural events and stand-up shows, travelling, and exploring new cafes around the city. She is a long-time composter and has been actively involved in plastic waste collection in her community. She has also conducted workshops on waste management, composting, and conscious living — translating her personal convictions into action beyond her immediate circle.
