Arpan Patra

Programme Associate

An experimental scientist by training, Arpan works as a consultant in the Mobility and the Air Quality teams at The Council. His primary research interests include traffic-related air pollution exposure and quantifying worsening air quality due to modifications in transport facilities.

Before joining the Council, Arpan completed his PhD dissertation from the Environmental Science and Engineering Department of the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay. His PhD focused on measuring air pollutants inside the popular modes of transport in India. It also quantified the impacts of socio-economic variables on the disparities in exposure and potential health outcomes.

Arpan has also estimated the probable impact of newly promoted mass transit facilities on public health in Mumbai. Also, Arpan was an intern at the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research Kolkata. There he worked on the bio-availability of Arsenic in the food crops in the Indo-Gangetic delta region in West Bengal.

In addition to his PhD work, Arpan also worked with the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai to study the environmental impacts on the blackening of the road-marking materials. He has published his works in reputed peer-reviewed journals and presented in several international conferences on air pollution, occupational exposures and transportation research.

Arpan holds a Bachelor degree in Chemistry from Calcutta University and Masters degree in Environmental Science and Engineering from IIT Bombay.

Arpan is a quiz and theatre enthusiast. He always finds time to explore new cuisine and enjoys a good laugh at stand-up shows.
