Arpan Patra

Programme Associate

Dr. Arpan Patra works with the Clean Air and Sustainable Mobility team at the Council. His current work primarily focuses on how self-regulation and compliance monitoring can be used to reduce urban air pollution from different anthropogenic sources, especially from road transport and construction activities.

An experimental scientist by training, Arpan holds a PhD from the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay. His thesis was in quantifying the impacts of different socio-economic factors leading to inequalities in exposure and potential health consequences. His articles on air pollution, occupational exposures, and transportation research are featured in respected peer-reviewed journals and international conferences. Notably, in the year 2022, his Ph.D. thesis was recognized among India's top 100 popular science stories by the Department of Science and Technology (DST).

Arpan has also estimated the potential impact of newly promoted mass transit facilities on public health in Mumbai. Arpan holds a Bachelor degree in Chemistry from Calcutta University and Master’s degree in Environmental Science and Engineering from IIT Bombay.

Arpan is a quiz and theatre enthusiast. He always finds time to explore new cuisine and enjoys a good laugh at stand-up shows.
