Purpose 

CEEW seeks to hire a research intern for the circular economy programme within the Energy Transitions team. The role involves evidence-backed research for determining the viability of second-life PV modules in India. This assessment will consider technical, environmental, economic, and social factors. The role provides opportunities to interact with solar companies and policymakers, and will appeal to those interested in building data and public policy skills.

Job Duties and Accountabilities 

Research 

  • Assist in assessing the technical and environmental feasibility of second-life of solar modules. This includes
    • research on standards such as the IEC standards for performance and safety of solar PV modules, voluntary standards such as R2 by SERI and other reuse standards applicable on electrical and electronic equipment.
    • research on repair and refurbishment techniques such as testing procedures to determine reusable modules, the type of testing equipment required, and a list of components/parts that can be replaced inside damaged modules.
    • conducting lifecycle analysis of second-life modules to understand resource efficiency and carbon emissions of this pathway compared to recycling.

Programme Assistance

  • Assist with project implementation, including help with preparing presentations, factsheets, and other communication material.
  • Support efforts to use new media platforms for wider dissemination of CEEW's work and, in turn, closer engagement with the key stakeholders.

Selection Criteria

Qualification

Enrolled in or completed a bachelor’s/master's degree in science, engineering and allied fields.

Work experience

  • 0-1 years of experience. 
  • Desirable - Prior experience in performance and safety testing procedures for solar PV modules.  

Key skills

  • Candidates must have strong 
    • research background
    • quantitative data analysis skills with practical experience
    • communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Desirable skills 
    • familiarity with Life Cycle Analysis (LCA)
    • financial modelling

Compensation
