The Council on Energy, Environment and Water (CEEW) is pleased to invite you to the virtual webinar and the launch of CEEW report, “Can White Hydrogen Accelerate India's Energy Transition?” on 28 July 2026, 16:00–17:30 IST.

White hydrogen, hydrogen generated by natural geological processes and extracted directly from the subsurface, is emerging as a potential low-emission, low-cost complement to green hydrogen. Early global evidence places its production cost below that of green hydrogen, at a fraction of the carbon intensity and water use of conventional pathways. More than 15 countries are now engaged in research, exploration, or early-stage drilling, and Mali operates the only producing well. India, with geological markers across the Deccan Traps, the Dharwar and Bundelkhand cratons, iron-rich formations, and the Andaman ophiolites, is at an early stage.

This session convenes the authors of the CEEW issue brief on white hydrogen with a panel of Indian and international experts. A short presentation of the study frames a wider conversation on what India does next: how it tests the resource, where it can learn from countries already in the field, and what an early, credible national effort would involve.
