Electricity bills are a primary mode of communication between the consumers and the distribution company (discom). However, our review of the electricity bill formats of 26 discoms in India highlights that bill formats used in several states do not provide the requisite information to consumers. The session will feature insights on how different discoms communicate information to their consumers through electricity bills, and how this could be further improved. Using a case study on Tamil Nadu, we will discuss the opportunities and strategies for improving bill formats, and their co-benefits for consumers and other actors.
