Dr Nitin Bassi is a Fellow at Council on Energy, Environment and Water (CEEW), where he leads the Sustainable Water Programme. He brings over two decades of experience across research, public policy, and capacity building to the challenges of water security.
His areas of work include River Basin Water Accounting, Circular Water Economy, Climate Induced Water Risk Assessments and Adaptation, Policy Coherence for Water-Energy-Food Security Nexus, Safe Water and Sanitation, Wetland Management, and Water Financing.
He represented the Ministry of Jal Shakti, Government of India within the Indian delegation for the 2nd G20 Environment and Climate Sustainability Working Group. Additionally, he contributed to the Urban 20 Task Force, co-authoring the White Paper on 'Ensuring Water Security.' His leadership was instrumental in establishing the India-EU Water Partnership and defining its strategic priorities from 2015 to 2020. Earlier, in 2017, he served on the Water Quality Task Force for the River Ganga under the Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation.
Before joining CEEW, he worked with the International Water Management Institute and the Institute for Resource Analysis and Policy, undertaking assignments for organisations including the European Commission, World Bank, GIZ, DFID, WRG 2030/IFC, UNICEF, WWF, and Tata Trusts.
A prolific public policy researcher and water resource management specialist, he has a PhD from Complutense University of Madrid (UCM), Spain and contributed to over 150 publications, including five edited books and articles in leading journals, bridging the gap between technical research and actionable water policy.
