How secure is India’s energy future?

17 Jun 2026   |   1430 – 1630 IST

The Council on Energy, Environment and Water (CEEW) is pleased to invite you to the dialouge on ‘India’s Rooftop Solar Revolution: Scaling the solar home to 1 crore rooftops’ on 05 June 2026 at Taj Palace, New Delhi.

India’s energy transition has entered a decisive phase through the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana. Launched on 13 February 2024 with a ₹75,021 crore outlay, it has become the world’s largest domestic rooftop solar programme, drawing over 1 crore household registrations. As of April 2026, monthly installations have surged from a pre-scheme average of 7,000 to over 1 lakh homes, resulting in 29.8 lakh installations that add 10.8 GW of capacity, power 36 lakh homes, and comprise nearly 45% of India’s residential solar capacity. Supported by ₹19,480 crore in direct financial assistance, the scheme catalysed an 85% deployment growth rate between 2024 and 2026, serving as a cornerstone for India’s broader march toward a 500 GW non-fossil target by 2030 (with total solar crossing 150 GW as of March 2026). To mark these achievements and address frontier challenges, the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy and CEEW are convening key stakeholders for a forward-looking, action-oriented event aimed at scaling the initiative to 1 crore solar-powered homes by FY 2026–27.
