Banashree Thapa

Program Associate

Banashree is a Programme Associate in the Sustainable Food Systems at The Council. She works on estimating the potential of green job potential from NbS and bioeconomy adoption in India. She brings deep experience on climate research and climate finance, especially on Nature-based Solutions within the voluntary carbon market. For the last three years, Banashree worked with a leading UK-based organisation Earthly where she led the research team to drive climate finance towards the highest quality NbS projects across the world. She brings extensive experience in project due diligence, stakeholder engagement and NbS research, with a goal to maximise benefits for people and nature. Her interests include NbS discourse, Article 6 and socio-ecological complexities around conservation and sustainable growth.

Banashree holds a Dual Masters degree in Botany from University of Delhi and an MSc in Biodiversity Conservation and Management from the University of Oxford, where she attended as a Commonwealth India scholar. In her free time, she likes to escape to quick nature trips, and is preparing to attempt the Kashmir Great Lakes trek and the Annapurna Base Camp next year. She actively makes resolutions, and will often be found mastering a new recipe or a new sport.
