Purpose

CEEW seeks to hire a suitable candidate for the position of Research Analyst to expand its work in the area of the low carbon economy, particularly revolving around the energy sector and the in-house Global Change Analysis Model (GCAM). The work will constitute becoming proficient with the in-house model, data collection and processing, literature review, and data visualisation. The work aims to feed into the modelling activities done in the Low Carbon Economy team, impact State-level climate policies and inform the larger energy debate in India. Low Carbon Economy's work on modelling and policy analysis is driven by the broader objective of supporting India’s energy and climate policy through evidence-based, unbiased research and cutting-edge analytical approaches. The candidate should have a strong interest in working with data and climate policy issues along with an inclination towards understanding India's and the global Net-Zero debate.

Job Duties and Accountabilities

Research and analysis

  • To collect and process data related to the energy sector of the states that the team works on
  • Support the work being undertaken currently within the team
  • To assist in writing research reports/papers
  • To assist in any other administrative task
  • To survey and analyse research data using different data analysis software and tools
  • To publish in high-quality peer-reviewed national and international journals
  • To present research to key constituencies, advisory bodies, conferences & research institutes
  • To develop research networks locally, nationally and internationally in support of research programmes
  • To keep a tab on the policy developments in India and across key countries of the world on the water-energy nexus, energy, and climate policy
  • To write research reports/papers
  • To generate knowledge content – blogs, and policy briefs at regular intervals
  • To engage with relevant stakeholders, represent the organisation and attend conferences and sessions, relevant to climate policy
  • To travel to project sites, when required, to conduct interviews or collect data for different research projects

Selection Criteria

Educational Qualification

  • Master's degree with specialisation in Engineering, economics, or related subjects.
  • Should have a strong inclination towards research, including an understanding of experimental and analytical research
  • High degree of comfort with quantitative and qualitative analysis

Main skills

  • Basic understanding of R, statistical modelling, and mathematical modelling (preferred)
  • Ability to do a literature review and summarise key findings.
  • Good written and oral communication skills; Good report-writing skills
  • Ability to use MS Office application suite, including proficiency in MS Excel.

  • Willingness to learn new (research and project management) skills
  • Ability to adapt to new environments and deliver under tight deadlines in a professional environment
  • Striving for rigour in research and quality in work output
  • Ability to dig deeper into details, while also keeping a sense of the broader objectives and big picture
  • Willingness to learn, grow and develop on personal and professional fronts at a rapid pace with a steep learning curve
  • Ability to work in an interdisciplinary and multicultural environment
