Stubble Burning in Punjab: Will 2024 be the Turning Point?

02 Jul 2024   |   1000-1300 IST

The Council on Energy, Environment and Water (CEEW) is pleased to invite you to the On Air Dialogue on “Stubble Burning in Punjab: Will 2024 be the Turning Point?” on 02 July 2024, 1030–1300 IST at Novotel, Tribune Chowk, Chandigarh.

Punjab is making progress in agricultural residue management, with over INR 1560 crore invested, 25,000 custom hiring centres established, and 1.38 lakh crop residue management machines provided in the last six years. Timely deployment and widespread adoption of crop residue management methods at a rapid scale are critical to ending the practice of stubble burning in the state.

At the session, we will launch our study, ‘How can Punjab Increase the Adoption of Crop Residue Management Methods? Survey Insights from 11 Districts of the State’, a first-of-its-kind state-level survey with ~1500 farmers. The session will bring together key stakeholders from the government, industry, and academia to discuss the findings of the study and deliberate on the policy priorities to plan for the Kharif farm fires in 2024.
