The objective of this role is to support the Green Economy team's research, programme activities, and strategic communications by translating research, programme outputs, and ecosystem insights into high-quality, audience-focused content. Working closely with the programme team, the Communications Specialist, and the Outreach team, the Consultant will help manage GE's digital channels, develop editorial and communication products, and support partnership-building and fundraising efforts.

CEEW invites applications from experienced researchers and writers with a background in markets, finance, startup ecosystems, innovation, or enterprise, and a keen interest in the Green Economy and public policy communications. The ideal candidate is a strong researcher and storyteller who can translate complex ideas into compelling content for diverse audiences, exercise strong editorial judgement, independently take outputs from conception to delivery, and work collaboratively across teams.

In addition to the duties and responsibilities outlined below, the individual should be prepared, as and when necessary, to take on additional responsibilities.

Job Duties and Accountabilities

Deliverables and Responsibilities

  • Conduct secondary research and monitor market, policy, and ecosystem developments across GE's priority value chains, synthesising insights to support programme strategy, partnerships, and communications.
  • Support the management of the editorial pipeline for the GE website and LinkedIn channel, working closely with the Communications Specialist (Green Economy), programme team, and Outreach team to plan, develop, publish, and maintain a consistent cadence of high-quality, audience-focused content.
  • Translate GE's research, programme activities, and ecosystem insights into compelling content across digital channels, partner-facing materials, and other communication and knowledge products.
  • Support the development of strategic communication assets—including background materials for podcasts, videos, events, presentations, briefing notes, one-pagers, talking points, and fundraising collateral—to strengthen stakeholder engagement, partnerships, and resource mobilisation.
  • Independently produce high-quality written content, and visual communication materials using AI, design, and presentation tools, while maintaining a high editorial standard and supporting the monitoring of content performance to continuously refine GE's communication approach.

Selection Criteria

  •  Master's/Bachelor's degree in economics, development studies, or related disciplines. Someone with a background in liberal arts, but experience in the development sector, startup ecosystem, or ecosystem-enabler space, could also apply.
  • 6-8 years of relevant professional experience in the development sector, startup ecosystem, or ecosystem-enabler space, with prior experience managing content channels (website and/or social media). Strong candidates with greater experience who are interested in a flexible or part-time engagement are also encouraged to apply.

Work experience and other skills

  • Strong research and writing ability, with experience translating research, data, or programme work into clear, accessible outputs for a non-specialist audience
  • Prior experience writing on markets, finance, startups, innovation, enterprise ecosystems, or related economic and public policy issues.
  • Experience managing or contributing to a website and/or social media channel, including planning and producing content over time

  • Strong editorial judgement and the ability to independently take high-quality outputs from conception to delivery.
  • A strong aesthetic sense and attention to detail
  • Working proficiency with AI tools (e.g. Claude) and design/presentation tools (e.g. Canva, Google Slides)
