Designation offered: Research Intern

Reporting to: Programme Lead/ Programme Associat

Location: New Delhi, India

Job Duration: 3-6 months, extendable upon revie

Purpose

CEEW seeks to hire a Research Intern primarily for its Industrial Sustainability and Competitiveness (ISC) programme. The chosen candidate will support the ISC team to carry out extensive research on the feasibility of hydrogen production and application across various end-use sectors. The candidate will be primarily responsible for collecting and analysing data and do preliminary analysis related to the various hydrogen technologies like electrolysers, fuel cells and storage systems. In view of the COVID pandemic, the candidate will be required to work from home. However, as and when the situation improves, the candidate should be flexible to move to New Delhi. Candidates with energy/mechanical/chemical/ environmental engineering and related science background are encouraged to apply for this position.

Job Duties and Accountabilities

Research

  • To understand the working of various hydrogen-based technologies and processes
  • To carry out relevant literature review and summarize findings as reports
  • To update and manage the in-house databases on hydrogen energy
  • To analyse data using tools like MS Excel, MATLAB, etc.
  • To work with senior researchers on conceptualising new projects (as and when needed)
  • To provide research content for organisation's web pages, blogs, policy briefs etc.
  • To engage with relevant stakeholders from industries, policy experts, academicians
  • To participate in relevant conferences, workshops, training programmes for comprehensive understanding of the Iron and steel sector in India and globally.

Project/programme assistance

  • Assist with project implementation, including help with preparing presentations, factsheets and other communication material.
  • Support efforts to use new media platforms for wide dissemination of CEEW's work and, in turn, closer engagement with the wider community.
  • Participate in weekly team meetings and assist with preparing minutes.
  • Accompany the other team members for meetings with other stakeholders; prepare minutes of the meetings and assist with relevant follow up.

Shortlisting Criteria

Education

  • Enrolled in or completed Bachelor's/Master's degree with specialisation in Energy/Mechanical/Chemical/ Environmental Engineering or related programmes.
  • Understanding of techno-economics, energy systems, data analytics, and industrial processes are preferable.
  • 0 – 1 year of relevant research experience.
  • A fair understanding of hydrogen energy would be appreciated.

Key skills

  • Must have strong research skills – capability to carry out literature review, web-scraping and synthesis is a key requisite, familiarity with research methods is a bonus
  • Experience working with software programmes such as M S Office, MATLAB, tableau and spatial analysis tools like QGIS, Google Earth Engine etc. are preferred
  • Willingness to conduct frequent field visits (if COVID situation improves)/meetings with stakeholder
  • Willingness to work on multi-disciplinary projects
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Experience in data collection preferred
  •  Experience in dealing with stakeholders (industry, academic, government etc.) preferred

Personality

  • Willingness to learn new research and project management skills.
  • Ability to adapt and deliver under tight deadlines in a professional environment.
  • Striving for rigour in research and quality in work output.
  • Ability to effectively work in a team while being able to independently drive research with minimum assistance, when time demands.
  • Ability and willingness to dig deeper into details, while also keeping a sense of the broader objectives and big picture.
  • Willingness to learn, grow and develop at personal and professional front, at a rapid pace with a steep learning curve.
  • Ability to work in an interdisciplinary and multicultural environment.

CEEW operates in a dynamic environment and the candidate will be required to show flexibility in undertaking a variety of tasks.

Compensation

Competitive compensation – commensurate to the experience and matching the best of standards adopted by industry or other similar organizations for similar roles.
